Title: Valentine's Day Dilemma
Post by: Fullerton on February 11, 2012, 04:23:36 PM
Finished these two cabs in recent days.  One is a sunstone from China and the other is red jasper from Tamworth.  I found the jasper at a mate's place during my recent holidays.  The jasper finish is actually super glossy but it didn't come out in the image with sunlight on it.  It does have a hairline crack and minor pitting, though these are indiscernable in the hand.

Anyway, my dilemma is which to give my wife for Valentine's Day   ??? It's too hard to decide as the sunstone is rare and spectacular while the jasper has personal significance and is spectacular ...

So you decide, please help me by voting and maybe, just maybe it'll go Ok on the day ...

Sunstone, hands down.
Rare, only 'one of' of your wife
She did say smaller
It's gorgeous.
Got it? Good.
ps. you wear the Jasper  :P

I voted for both but I really like the sunstone - that is a nice piece that would wear very well and being rare makes it even more special.

cheers
Leah

good luck.

No votes for the ebay option ... whatever happened to 'treat them mean to keep them keen'?

Just checked on the flowers ... they are wilting, probably why they were on special  :P Don't think they'll keep me in credit until Valentines.    :'(
Prices are gonna go up, she can't double-dip and expect another bunch  >:(

Well now you'll need to press a good one, make a quartz cab, then assemble in a pendant for next years..recycling dude  ;)

LOL.
That Jasper looks like a Jasper/hematite mix that I have from Penguin, damn hard for me to photograph but you snagged it.

But Klingon, diamonds are so boring  ... unless they are coloured and then they're too expensive.  I've got plenty of clear topaz if she merely wanted a sparkly rock.

Not sure I did that well Mehoose.  The irons shows well but it's at the expense of the good polish on the stone and accentuates the pitting.  Here's a retake.

Nah, personally prefer the first pic, reckon that's probably close to real life. If you could only use one pic I'd go with one that didn't show shine to really show truest colour and patterns. If you had room to show more, then you could use one that showed level of polish at the sacrifice of 'seeing it all'. Of course ideally it's to get both in the one but seeing as I'm so crap in that department I won't give advice on 'how to'. Also, if I was looking with the view to buying, I'd rather see a pit and know it was there..if you follow.

I follow.

BTW, the mrs found out.  My daugher saw the computer and told her!!! Both thought it was hilarious.

She says. 'So I'm getting a pendant then?'.  Me 'Well, that just depends on the poll outcomes ... I have got an ebay option too!'.  Not quite hilarious now.

7 votes for giving both cab pendants.  I reckon they're all women's votes  ;)

There mustn't have been any votes from the blokes yet otherwise I would have had at least one vote for the ebay option.  :P  I'm hoping for a late surge for ebay ...

I thought that this year instead of giving the missus a card and a bunch of roses That I'd be more practical, so instead I bought her one of these new beaut foot and leg massagers. The look of pleasure on her face was something to be seen.
She asked me why on earth I'd bought it for her when a card would have been OK.
I said that I was so fed up with her standing at the kitchen sink and moaning about her feet aching whilst I was laying on the sofa watching cricket.
It's in for repair !! ;)

I didn't give in to the pressure to allow my emotions be used for commercial gain and buy my wife a dozen red roses  ...............  I bought yellow ones!

I got it easy this year I was told.
Got the movie she wanted, the chocolates she wanted, the icecrem she wanted, the drink she wanted, the nibbles she wanted and the list goes on, but will be completed. for her arrival home.
Not for commercial gain, just survival.

For the record ... she loved both pendants.  If forced to choose, she would say she liked the sunstone better because it was so different to other stones.  She liked the jasper because she 'didn't have a red stone yet'.

Glad it worked well for you, Fullerton ... well done. My wife got flowers and chocolate (not as long lasting as your lovely stones though!), she is yet to make a start on the chocolate. Jamo :)

yes, Mehoose, ... it was sunstone.

Mind you, I didn't tell her beforehand the emotional connection with the jasper ... in that I found it while we were on holidays.
