Title: Opal suppliers?
Post by: harryopal on February 09, 2019, 08:58:06 PM
Some years have slipped by since my last visits to opal fields to buy rough directly.
Beginning of March I am heading to Perth then Melbourne and on to Adelaide before returning to Indonesia.

I'm not too keen on buying on line. Can anyone recommend people, perhaps miners or lapidary club members, who may have rough both in general opal and boulder opal? I am looking for relatively good quality and would rather buy a small amount in terms of weight. I'm not interested in Andamooka opal.

Thanks in anticipation of some useful responses.

I dont know why you are not intrested in Andamooka opal as it is some of the very best.

It's the cooking side of things that puts me off Andamooka opal.

Not all Andamooka opal needs to be cooked, Andamooka has some of the best opal around and it has many types of opal.

Thanks for the clarification but unless I was dealing with someone in whom I could trust I would be a bit wary particularly as I  have never cut and polished Andanooka rough.
