Title: Sapphire wash
Post by: wes 2143 on May 16, 2019, 04:43:04 PM
hi guys
Can anyone point me in the direction to where I can buy some decent sapphire wash? I have so far bought 6 kilos from a place in Sapphire Qld and all it contained was a lot very small chips and very tiny zircon less than 1 mm. apart from the two gift stones enclosed
cheers

If your able I'd recommend going for an adventure and finding your own. Lot of fun finding your own stones :)

Hi Wes just something to think about if you had some wash with good sapphires in it that may be worth 20 dollars or more would you sell that to a person  for 10 dollars I think not. regards Dave

Sapphire miner is correct bags of wash are simply a way of giving money away.  If you must,  the miners cottage at rubyvale is probably the best of them.

Thanks, Dave, of course, you are right, i was just going to buy some wash to give to a mate of mine who is in a wheelchair to give him a new interest in life, however as i could be going to Inverell in the near future, i will bring some home for him from Billabong Blue

Hi Wes aka Wayne  beers

I am running Gemorama in 4 weeks 8 - 10th June. I'm running 3 field trips & the Sunday & Monday will be to sapphire areas. The Saturday trip is for minerals, ( copper, azurite, fluorite, quartz, etc) You are more than welcome to check it out.

Cheers,

Hi Bob, I would like to attend but I am not kitted out properly yet, I need to buy some sieves and digging tools, and some more basic camping gear ( this is pension dependent) I could only go on the Happy valley excursion as I don't have a 4x4. but it sounds like a lot of fun

Cheers,

Hi Wes,  beers

There will be plenty of others with 4WD's that can give you a lift.

As for digging tools, all you'd need is a small shovel, trowel or pick. Even a gardening tool would work but there is enough on the surface so you wouldnt really need to dig. I am interested to see what others find if they do dig tho as this is an old mining area thats NEVER been fossicked so pure virgin ground.

Sieves can be hired at the Glen visitors centre which is only 40 kms from here.

Cheers,

If you dont have sieves you can hire them from Glen Innes Visitors Centre. You pay $60 & when returned you get $55 back so you will only pay $5 to hire them.
