Crystal belts versus Eastwing versus Silicon carbide?

Best and most economical option for moderate use taking in to account purchase cost.

I am starting to think the pink is just to distinguish it from tin oxide

Gemstone Faceting / Nonosital angles.
« on: November 11, 2018, 12:44:15 PM »
I am just starting out so doing some round Brilliants in Nanosital for practice. My diagram is for quartz. What angles should I use for Nanosital? Would I use Topaz angles?

Head to a sheet metal place. Also track down mining engendering ok places. They might have some scrap. Try  the scrap metal places too. Do you want woven mesh or perforated sheet? You will find it  in Mackay. If you search online for stainless steel mesh you will find suppliers but at a minimum amount plus freight.

Another question I have not been able to find a decent answer to. Pink and White Cerium Oxide. I believe the pink has Praseodymium added but what effect does this have? I am guessing it is actually Praseodymium oxide. When would you use one over the other?

Does anyone know if Nanosital can be polished like quartz? That is, with an Ultralap or Cerrium oxide on perspex.

Saws and Diamond Blades / Glueing Dops for slabbing
« on: October 17, 2017, 03:41:21 PM »
What's good for gluing rock to wood for slabbing? Is liquid nails construction glue type of thing any good? A lot seem to say Sodium Silicate but that sounds very old fashioned. Is it or is it the best?

Why not trim close with a band saw instead of using something akin to using a thermal lance?

Saws and Diamond Blades / Re: saw blades...which one to buy???

Notched is generally cheaper but I would go the extra for a continuous sintered blade. For general slabbing use, don't try go too thin either. Check out the general info on smart cut diamond tools website.

Another question on said wheels. Manufacturers often state maximum speed or RPM. What speed or RPM is generally a best compromise for common use such as silica based stones.

I have a worn 80 grit. I am looking at a new 80 grit to grind the outline shape. Sounds like the textured wheel might be the go.
Shivan, what do you mean it leaves a " textured finish"? Do you mean just deeper scratches?

Are the textured coarse grit diamond grinding wheels more or less aggressive that the standard electroplated ones?

Is that what it's actually called? I tried Googling it and only got a game.
Vectr has a good support service. Powerful but a bit complicated to use. I am guessing all vector style design programmes are the same. I think it is sort of a free alternative to photoshop.
