thanks for that findem. might just be quartz then. will do a specific gravity test tomorrow and see what that comes up with. Bucket this was in the creek that runs down into lake cethana near the pipeline. was a very steep walk. I think there is a gem mine still there ran by 2 blokes. princess mine I think its called. I found where it was but only walked to the gate. I will be heading back up there in the next couple of months when I start shift work again. to have another look. was one of the steepest walks ive ever done. would be easy to get down there with a 4 wheeler.

gday bucket. I found it in narrawa creek at moina.  near the old mine workings. was a hard walk down in there had to kick a few tigers off the track. going to head back up there in the next couple of months to see what else I can turn up. wasnt a great amount of gold in the creek. only a couple of colours but I wasnt really trying to hard as I only really went down in there to check out the old workings and run the detector about for a relic or 2.

gday guys. thanks for the info. do you mean like in this photo the tops face and the bottom face being parallel. it may just be quartz but ive never seen a quartz crystal so translucent as this. there are very little to no impurities in it.

Gday all. I'm Ben from Devonport. Ive been metal detecting for coins and panning for gold for a while now. Im keen to hear from other prospectors in the state. On a trip recently up at moina I was panning in a small creek and came across what I think are some topaz, quartz and smokey quartz crystals in a gravel wash bar. This sparked my interest for looking for gems. The picture is what I think is a chip from a topaz crystal. I found some whole points of the crystals but havent taken any pictures of those.
