Safe traveling Ranger Itchy.  :) After the fires there will be a lot of clear ground up there, well more like ash covered. Watch out for falling trees.

Looks like a chalcedony lined cavity.
Presume it was not found in the National Park. See link.

Fossicking Locations / Re: Is Grabben Gullen dead?
« on: January 20, 2019, 10:23:54 AM »
Original deposits in most cases have been weathered away and sapphire alluvials formed in ancient rivers.  These have since been covered in sediment in seas and other lava flows. Land has risen up and new river systems have cut through the ancient alluvial deposits. Some times removing them altogether. At other times still buried under parts of old basalt flows that now are on hill sides or tops.

For eg read through http://www.geomaps.com.au/scripts/tumbarumbagem.php

Area has been dug very heavily over the last few years. Including with highbankers and walliebankers when they were still legal. So not much to find until the area gets a huge flood. Last good flood years ago through the area reached 10 metres further down stream.
