Hello crew.  Its been another long time since I have been on the forum.  I still see a lot of the old hands are still around and digging hard.

I spent a day sieving wash down in the snowys area with some success.

I think it will take me a year to catch up on all the reports and posts  ::)

Hi all.  Its been a very long time since I surfaced on ALF.

I still recognize a few names here, and see its grown wonderfully since Ausie Sapphire started this forum.

I don't fossick much these days, though still dabble with the sieves at least once a year.

Hello all ALF's

Its been a very long time since I have been to visit the forum.

Life has been a hectic roller coaster, with Global Financial Crisis and working in finance.  Ups and downs with little to no trips out digging for gemstones.

Add becoming secretary to a hunting club, strugling with securing work, and managing study life, personal life and work life, I've hardly had time to scratch my  :o

Will be looking over the forum over the next few weeks, trying to get back into it.  But with this cold weather on, I doubt many will be getting out to dig, unless your headed to the outback.

I will say one thing though.  I've been very active in the hunting community, getting out bush and helping farmers battle against the increase of ferals.  Many a lamb was saved this year.  But when you go trudging through the bush, you come accross many interesting things.  Secret digs, old mines, creeks full of indicators such as spinel, and gold nuggets that register on the cheapest of detectors.  Some secrets worth keeping.

to all my friends who are still around, wishing you well, and hope you did very well in your digs this year.  beers

Hi guys

Just though I let every know I am back on the forum.

I've had a rough few months, ever since I had to pull out of MM.

Still looking for a new job, but at least I got my internet working at home again.  Problem after problem, with emails not going through, to being flooded with spam, server problems, and the proverbial virus's

if anyone got emails from me with all sorts of rubbish, appologies.  It was not me but some virus.

And the problem got worse and I was told that I was spending too much time on the internet at work and had to cut my usage to work related items only.  So much for a boss who does not lead by example.  And they wonder why I am unhappy at my current occupation.  so I couldn't use the internet at work either.

Now I am keen to get back out for a dig.

General Discussion / Property owners wanted : Hunting rights
« on: July 15, 2009, 01:37:40 PM »
Hi Guys

Not sure if you know, but I am right into hunting as well.  It seems to fill in the times in winter when I don't have a bucket and shovel in my hands

Now I understand if some people are against it, and I respect their views.  We are all entitiled to them.

I was wondering if anyone on this forum would have property that they would allow hunting on.  I am looking for people with aproperty that might have a few feral animals on them.

I only shoot ferals - Goats, fox, deer, feral pigs, feral cats.  They eat native birds, do crop damage, or just eat feed intended for stock animals.

Just thought I might give this forum a try.

I got all the licenses, covered by my clubs for Public Liability insurance to the tune of $10 million, and am a ethical hunter.

If anyone has a property, or knows of one, has friends with land, or know of someone with pest problems, and think it might be viable for allowing me to hunt on their grounds, feel free to PM me for contact details or references (to prove my integrity).  I am based in NSW

Just wanted to know what you would do with Phrase?  is it good for anything, or is it more of a mineral for collection

Trip Talk / Hung up the shovel
« on: June 18, 2009, 01:28:52 PM »
Well, I'm done for the winter.  Hung up the shovel and oiled the pick.

Not going out till the weather gets warmer, and I don't have to loose a finger to frost bite when I doing my wash.

These few months will really get the itch going, and I hope to scratch it at the Mini Minerama.

So if I am not around too much on the forum, you can drop me an email.

Tumblers and Media / Tumbling for idiots

Hi all

After a bit of talking about getting someone to tumble for me, I just got a motor and some PVC pipe and started building my own tumbler.

Now I need to know how to use it.  Could someone give me a lowdown on how to tumble ???

I will start with a bunch of quartz jelly beans to tumble

Hi All

As I was at work yesterday, spending alot of my time not working but organising group trips, sending private messages, and looking over gem photos and locations, it suddenly came to my attention that I have taken this site for granted.

From the remnants of the old gem forum 'Gemstones Australia' and the closing down of the MSN Groups, Aussie Sapphire has done a great job in creating a good looking forum that seems to be gaining numbers every month.  Without it, you soon realise that the avid fossicker, Jeweler, lapidarist and gem nut have very little ways of learning little tricks, secret spots, meet new people, and most importantly have a brag about what we found, or our new cut.

so a big thanks for all the hard work, and a great looking forum.  Plus, giving me and Ted another chance to stir up each others pot.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

PS -  I promise to start lapidary one day soon

Trip Talk / Wee Jasper 23rd and 24th May
« on: April 28, 2009, 08:44:03 AM »
Hi Guys

Thought I might put a little call out for a trip.  Before it gets too cold.

Smvquest (Sean) and myself Mithras will be headed out to Wee Jasper for a dig.  All those who can make it are welcome to come.  Just PM me for details.

If there are enough people interested, I might set up a camp for the night. Again, anyone welcome to share the campfire and a bottle of Red.  Just remember its starting to get cold, so a proper tent or sleeping bag is required  :D

Kristy:  I might need a mud map to your little crystal spot.  I would love to have a look at the quartz outcrop.

Trip Talk / Wee Jasper trip
« on: April 13, 2009, 11:20:38 AM »
Hi all.  Spent the Friday digging out at Wee Jasper with FossickerACT, Mudpuddler and a few members from canberra lapidary club.

Had a good day out.  Spent most of it in the camp chair, but the after a few early spots of rain, It cleared up to a nice sunny day.

I started out detecting around the old gold mining runs, but with nothing to show for the effort, I drove down to see if the others had turned up.

They were all there and getting ready for a dig, and I turn up.  After a bit of teasing about me sleeping in  :P, when really I was digging already at the crack of dawn, We all headed down to dig in our pits.

I found jack all.  I took the concentrates home and got about .5 gram of gold, but no sapphires.  Ted and Chris shared a hole and ended up getting a few bits of color and a nice 5 carat star sapphire.

Thanks for the day out guys. ;D
