Fossicking Locations / Areas now Closed in Nth NSW..
« on: October 04, 2020, 06:54:04 PM »
New Signs have been posted at Torrington and are about to be erected in Stannifer and Tingha....
Parts of Torrington are now closed... Mainly Pacific Copper's area... That means no more Bismuth and Wolfram Hill... All private property now... To access the dam areas you must cross this Private Property and that is Trespassing and you will be Prosecuted for doing so...

Next area now closed is Stannifer and Tingha Plateau Conservation Area... Jellybean Crystals came from this area...

All these Closures have been bought about by those who like to Rape and take everything as well as using Power tools to Fossick...

I would put pics up but its too hard for a Gemster... But believe me, this IS very True... >:(

Fossicking Locations / NAPFA. Who Are They...
« on: April 26, 2017, 08:43:43 PM »
Long Post... Sorry Guys and Gals....  :P
NAPFA is the  NSW and ACT Prospectors and Fossickers Association....
Some of you may have noticed in past posts that I was very cynical of NAPFA. At first, I was wary of anyone who said they are out there for the Prospector and Fossicker and who works with the Government for a better outcome. That's my Construction Industry/Union Rep mentality taking over .. Lol..
Well how wrong I was to jump on this in the way I did. It has (after a good search on the net and lots of reading) come to light that this Organisation is actually out there for us Fossickers and Prospectors. They have been working behind the scenes on many fronts. One is, To secure LGA's as Fossicking Districts. What this actually means is we are not Governed by Mining Companies big handed tactics anymore when they have an Exploration Lease and some of these cover many 100's of square km of our favourite fossicking Areas. Now that some of these areas have become New Fossicking Districts we no longer need Mining Company's Permission to enter their Exploration Lease Areas. If these areas fall on Private Property then we still need Land Owners/ Managers to enter and Fossick of course, But that is all.. No more asking these Companies for permission that is nearly in all instances quickly Denied. NAPFA got this Win through following a number of meetings with the Minister who then supported the creation of the New Fossicking Districts by inviting selected Local Government Areas to be come Fossicking Districts.
NAPFA's Plans is for All or at least most of the Areas in NSW that are of interest to us Fossickers to become Fossicking Districts and that in My eyes is a massive Win for us Fossickers and the Towns fall into these Areas.
The hard work this Organisation has done and is still doing behind the scenes is a very Positive step in Restoring the Balance... Having these Meetings with the Minister has allowed us a voice that previously as individuals, has fallen on Deaf Ears.
NAPFA are trying to clarify and improve the Fossicking Provisions of the Mining Act and relevant Legislation so we know exactly what we can do and can't do or will be able to do in the Future.. No more Grey Areas like the use of Pumps Etc, as we all know occur  under Mining/Fossicking/Water Act Rules.
NAPFA was also responsible for pushing through a solution to the Debacle of Fossicking in State Forests when we had to tell them Where, When and How long we would be Fossicking. Now after NAPFA's efforts, We have a State Wide Permit, that you can get Online and which gives you the chance to Fossick in ALL State Forests for a Year... That's another Win for Us. NAPFA has also been meeting with NPWS as well to try to work out a way to help us get access to some of the previously Fossicked Lands that were taken up in National Parks with-out any thought to our Needs. Work on that Policy is still happening, even after a couple of Years but hopefully they will have an outcome on this soon.
It has also come to light that the Tibooburra Common Area Trust has started to Charge people $15 per day per Detector to Detect this once Fee Free area. From what is understood, this has NOT been yet been Approved by the relevant Overseeing Body of The Commons, So it's a bit pre-emptive for the Trust to Stick a Sign up when it is not clear that it is actually Approved yet. NAPFA has sent a Letter to the Area of Crown Lands responsible for the Approval pointing out that this would have a Negative Impact on the Town because fewer Fossickers will go there... When I hear something about this i'll let you all know..
NAPFA is also putting in a Submission to the NPWS Draft Management Plan for the Sturt National Park (which is right beside the Tibooburra Common) to try to get Fossicker access to some of the Old Mining Areas, and formerly Fossicked areas that are now in the Park. Any-one is welcome to make a Submission to this Plan, So Please give it a crack if you have the time. Submissions have to be in by 17th July. The Draft Management Plan of Management can be viewed at.... htpps://   dam link thingys again... ::)

General Discussion / Vale Patrick O'Brien
« on: March 20, 2017, 09:35:16 PM »
The Fossicking/ Lapidary world lost another well respected member on Saturday Night... :'(
Pat O'Brien was a valued contributor to the Gold, Gem and Treasure Magazine and a Keen Fossicker... His Lapidary work was next to none...  I have had the privilege of joining Pat on a few of his mad excursions around the hills of Woolgoolga NSW. Didn't find much... We used to just sit by a creek and he would tell me stories from his Policing Days in Newcastle :D .. All I can say is he will be greatly missed by those who knew him....
