It is such a shame...I love the acronym Gemster...yet another step towards a bubble wrap society. Still, we can be grateful that we have been fortunate enough to have enjoyed the experience!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. It is pretty cold here at the moment so pack your winter woollies. There is a lot of rain around so don't forget your recovery gear if going off road. Look forward to hearing about your adventures. Sadly we miss out again this year as we are heading home tomorrow after picking up some nice crystals at Tingha and some sapphire.

Hi All yes I can confirm that you are no longer allowed to stand under the goodie chute as apparently some people stood too close and were hit on the head...such a shame as I loved the fun of hearing the plop plop plop of the goodies came out. We spent the day there yesterday digging around on the heaps and found some lovely specimens...very sore muscles today but well worth while.

Thanks so much Gemster - I feel for Rhonda and Bill - they are such lovely people and seem to have such trying times. I will give them a call as I just love visiting their property and catching up..sapphires or not.  :)

HI Everyone, does anyone know if Billabong Blue has had their lease renewed yet? We are coming up in a few weeks and would love to visit again.

Fossicking Locations / Re: Swamp Oak Fossicking Park Inverell

Hi all
Just spent the day here today and it is as good, if not better, than it used to be. The guys next to be found 4-5 decent cutters with awesome colour. Each one was around 3-4 carats. We came away with some pretty colour but not the massive ones he found.
The place has little seating areas and has its lovely charm. Looking forward to a few more days of fun. If you are there during this week and see a family chatting with everyone, that will be us. Love the meeting people as much as the fossicking.

I think Armsfest may do it...we picked up some lovely stones there when we did pay by the bucket. All the best.

Trip Talk / Wellingrove..expert advice needed :)

Hi everyone, whilst we were up at Torrington yesterday we bumped into some lovely people who told us that some of the best fossicking areas included Wellingrove...from all my readings in ALF it seems that Wellingrove has been done over and pickings are slim. Now you guys are the experts and I am very much the novice...can you tell me your experiences at Wellingrove? I heard a story yesterday about a 20 carat stone being found but what are your experiences? I'm happy to give anywhere a go and am not afraid of hard work, but as we have a limited amount of time left in the beautiful Glen Innes/ Inverell area I would love your expert advice!

Sorry...my text didn't come through...I was wondering how much it is to get quartz cut and any recommendations on the style of cut that best shows off the stone? Does it take a long time to polish quartz? There are some lovely pieces that would look pretty if just were a little shiny...might need to visit the Aussie Sapphire warehouse and pick up some grit.

I agree Leah - we have stayed at Glen Innes and Inverell and they are both central to any fossicking. This time we will be staying in Inverell...I love both towns. Will give Seven Oaks a try and was thinking of calling "wings of eagles" and seeing if we can visit there this time.
Cant come to the New England without a visit ti Emmaville and Torrington....then there is aways Tinga.
There are just so many options....are there any places where fossils can be found? Cant seem to find anything on the forums.
