Whats New at / Print Catalogue
« on: November 15, 2008, 05:48:53 PM »
The other thing that customers have been asking about for a long time is whether we have a print catalogue.  The answer has always been NO but we realise that having a catalogue would help out a lot - particularly for those who do not have ready access to a computer.

So, we have finally decided to put something together.  It has been a massive job and we're not quite finished yet but we're hoping to have something for the printer in a week or so.

We are hoping the catalogue will be ready for distribution early in the New Year but we'll announce it both here and on the blog as soon as we can so stay tuned.

Obviously the big new development at Aussie Sapphire is this forum.

We've been thinking about starting one for quite a while now but finally thought we'd give it a go.

The forum is open to everyone interested in lapidary, gems and fossicking.  Traders and dealers are very welcome to join as we always feel that discussions are far more valuable when everyone involved can participate.

If you have suggestions for the forum or need some help to use any of the features, please feel free to contact us any time - we'll do our best to help out.

We'll still be writing articles and announcements on our blog but this forum is far more interactive for people to get involved so get stuck into it !!

cheers for now from Andrew and Leah (Aussie Sapphire)

How to post Pictures & other FAQ / How to I choose/change my avatar
« on: November 12, 2008, 04:25:04 PM »
An avatar is a small image or photograph which is linked to your membership profile.  These are displayed when people view your publicly available profile information (some information you may choose to keep private) and in the box on the left of any message that you post on the boards.

Avatars are used by members to express something about themselves – the image can be anything you want as long as it is meaningful to you.

You can choose from one of the avatars provided, link to a file elsewhere on the internet or upload one of your own images.  Images should be small (suggest around 80 to 100 pixels square) and in one of the popular formats (gif, jpg, png).

You may choose or change your avatar at any time.  Simply go to your profile and select "Forum Profile Information" which is the second option in the Modify Profile menu box.  You will see three options - the first is to choose an existing image from the folders stored on our server (select a folder to browse), the second is to provide a link to an image that already exists elsewhere on the internet, or thirdly, you can upload a file from your own computer.

Save your changes and your new avatar will now display on the summary page of your profile and next to any messages you post.

How to post Pictures & other FAQ / Adding Images - other methods
« on: November 12, 2008, 04:11:43 PM »
We encourage everyone to use the Gallery for adding images as this gives you more features - ie. comments, keywords, categorisation, etc.

However, there are 2 other ways to add pictures to your posts.

a)   use Image Shack or Photobucket image hosting services - these store your images and you need to use the forum/bulletin board code supplied to add them to your posts.

b)  simply add them as an attachment to your post when composing your message.  This is a very simple method but does make it a bit harder for other members to see your photos once the post drops down the list over time.

When using Method B) - just click the Additional Options button at the bottom of the text entry box - this allows you to directly upload a file and attach it to your post.  The size limit is smaller for this method compared to using the Gallery.

How to post Pictures & other FAQ / Adding Photographs to the Gallery
« on: November 12, 2008, 04:02:28 PM »
Use the Gallery feature to store your photographs is an easy way to store and access your images.  See below for instructions.

1  click on the Gallery button on the top menu bar.
2. choose a gallery to post your image - new categories can be added on request
3.  click the "Add Picture" button under the gallery box
4.  enter the details and upload your picture

IMPORTANT:   photographs are limited in size to maximum of 1200 pixels width or length.  We recommend keeping your photos around 800 pixels or less in width as this saves on horizontal scrolling.

NOTE:   new photos need to be approved by moderators so they wont show up straight away.  This helps us keep the spammers away but we'll get them up on display as soon as possible.

All photos in the gallery will be displayed in the Random Image box on the left so everyone can see them.  Use the BB code to insert a thumbnail in your posts.

Any queries - just ask.
