General Discussion / Re: Dapto thread?
« on: September 07, 2016, 07:36:42 PM »
Thanks Gemster, at least I'm not losing my marbles here. Yes I tried all kinds of combinations, including Princes Highway, Wollongong, Dapto etc. From memory the bloke was digging up crystals at the side of the Princes Hwy near Dapto, I was hoping to get a better, perhaps more precise location. Might have to get the 4wd out and head up to Tuena instead lol

General Discussion / Dapto thread?

Hi folks, could be a figment of my imagination (which is still riding the Monday roundabout) but I thought there was recently a thread regarding Dapto and the Princes Highway on here? Have searched the forums but couldn't find anything. Things are a little wet around home so I thought I might venture toward the coast to do some rock kicking.

Jewellery Talk / Sticky situation - removing a bell cap
« on: June 26, 2016, 04:46:55 AM »
Hi folks, I have made a few pendants in the past and use epoxy glue to secure the bell cap. I need to remove one as it must have slipped off centre whilst drying. What do most people use to dissolve the glue?

I use my dremel a lot when I'm not at lapidary club. I found some very good water based cutting fluid at Bunnings, it works really well and lasts for ages. The other thing I came up with when wanting to polish with wet and dry paper was to cut a circle out of an icecream container lid, approx. 4cm across and then use double sided tape to adhere the paper. I made one for each grit grade and when they wear I just replace them. They have a slight flex depending on pressure but you might find that useful depending on the shape of your piece. ANyway it's been a god send for me and not doing it by hand lol. I also buy a box of 50 piece diamond burr tools from a good seller on eBay called Great tools, in Hong Kong. He sends them very quickly and at a good price. Cheers.

I was up there last week Jamo, lovely place. I went to Alligator Creek as my daughter was telling me how pretty it was and she was right. If you have time certainly go for a look. I didn't have much time as mum was unwell and stayed in the car but on my way along the bank I grabbed two rocks and one of them just turned out to be poppy jasper. Now I wish I had picked up more lol. Have a great time and find plenty! :)

Trip Talk / Townsville fossicking tips please.
« on: May 10, 2016, 03:46:32 AM »
Hey folks, I'm headed up to Townsville on Saturday for five days to see my daughter who is at Uni up there and also take my mum for a little break before she has a breast removed. I was hoping there might be some places close to town where I can have a scratch around. I am not taking any real gear just pretty much picking up off the ground. If there are any locals who can give me some tips for locations within say 30 mins, it would be appreciated. Thanks M :)

Mr Sydney, I have seen some nice agate and petrified wood, I do recall them telling me about other rocks but will have to ask them again what they were as I can't remember specifics sorry.

No Mungoman, I don't have a copy, unfortunately. I do know a landholder who has property on Lost River but there is also a bridge crossing out there, which is where I thought I would go and have a look to see what its like. It's about half hour drive from home so I might as well wait for a nice day and check it out. :)
