Winston  I have the Lorton 33B and have had no trouble with it for  past ten years, I have this model as I also do Silversmithing and use one barrel of rock off cuts and the other for burnishing the silver.

Thanks Phil I will try the rough quartz and see how I go. beers

Phil, I have the same problem with diamond wheels, nice and smooth stone without scratch's at 600, I then go to the 1200 and scratch's appear.  I was getting a good polish when I used Silicon Carbide Wheels, have used them for years up to about five years ago but am thinking of going back to them, diamond wheels aren't as good as I was told.  I guess this doesn't help with your laps but I have a similar problem.

Yep I use the same Aluminium Wire or pencil, for dark stones

after reading your post last week, I can sympathys with you, was laying down digging out some crystals last Sunday, twisted to get my rock pick and heard a pop and pain in my right ribs, you guessed it cracked a rib, anyhow we can compare wounds, who said rock hunting wasn't a dangerous sport ;D

Ghost, when I left school, I trained as an Assayor with a Geo Exploration team, travelling around the country for Aberfoyle resources, back then I had no interest in collecting rocks, but took a lot of samples around Australia in our research.  Know I wish I had taken a couple of samples and put in those white sample bags I use to pile up in the Laboratory, still know the locations but in the past 40 years, most of them have been turned into National Parks.

Im cleaning up about two 40 litre buckets of Boulder Opal, I've had for 20 years and didn't realise how good the pieces are, my trip saw and wheels are a mess, but the Boulder is beautiful.   Next will be my opal from Lightning Ridge, if my fingernails can hack it. hotthirsty

Yes my experience too mate, I found the red was more flexible, where green was very brittle but lasted, I threw away the red because it had that flexability, do you think I should have stayed with the red.

Sandbagger, have an uncle that has property out that way, he's been carting water for a while, so I think there is minimal water in the area, It might be safer after the fire season is over.

Hi, has anybody had problems with dopping using sealing wax.  I have use wax on my dopping sticks for about 15 years, but over the last twelve months, I don't know whether it is the wax, but the stones seal to the stone, but once I start working on them they drop off the stick.   Can anybody suggest what I maybe doing wrong or has anybody got a suggestion on what other median and can use to attach the stone to the dop stick.
