General Discussion / Words of a Teenager
« on: February 17, 2015, 05:56:25 PM »
Found this article on another site and thought it was appropriate for the youth of today.

Words for Teenagers
Northland College principal John
Tapene has offered the following
Words from a judge who regularly
Deals with youth.  “Always we hear
The cry from teenagers, “what can
We do, where can we go”
My answer is this: Go home,
Mow the lawn, wash the windows,
Learn to cook, build a raft, get a job, visit the sick, study your lessons and after you’ve finished, read a book.  Your town does not owe you recreational facilities and your parents do not owe you run.

“The world does not owe you a living, you owe the world something.
You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no one will be at war, in sickness and lonely again.  In other words grow up, stop being a cry baby, get your of your dream world and develop a back bone not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person.  You are important and you are needed.  It’s too late to sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday.  Someday is now and that somebody is you”

General Discussion / Forget Diets
« on: January 09, 2015, 12:01:03 PM »
For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

One day I had lunch with some friends.  Jim, a short, balding golfer type about 85-years old, came along with them; all in all, a pleasant bunch.

When the menus were presented, we ordered salads, sandwiches, and soups, except for Jim who said, "Ice Cream, please. Two scoops, chocolate.

I wasn't sure my ears heard right, and the others were aghast. "Along with heated apple pie," Jim added, completely unabashed.

We tried to act quite nonchalant, as if people did this all the time. But when our orders were brought out, I didn't enjoy mine.

I couldn't take my eyes off Jim as his pie a-la-mode went down. The other guys couldn't believe it. They ate their lunches silently and grinned.

The next time I went out to eat, I called and invited Jim . I lunched on white meat tuna. He ordered a parfait. I smiled. He asked if he amused me.

I answered, "Yes, you do, but also you confuse me. How come you order rich desserts, while I feel I must be sensible?"

He laughed and said "I'm tasting all that is possible. I try to eat the food I need, and do the things I should. But life's so short, my friend, I hate missing out on something good. This year I realized how old I was. (He grinned) I haven't been this old before. So, before I die, I've got to try those things that for years I had ignored.

"I haven't smelled all the flowers yet. There are too many trout streams I haven't fished. There's more fudge sundaes to wolf down and kites to be flown overhead.

"There are too many golf courses I haven't played. I've not laughed at all the jokes. I've missed a lot of sporting events and potato chips and cokes.

"I want to wade again in water and feel ocean spray on my face. I want to sit in a country church once more and thank God for His grace.

"I want peanut butter every day spread on my morning toast. I want un-timed long distance calls to the folks I love the most.

"I haven't cried at all the movies yet, or walked in the morning rain. I need to feel wind on my face. I want to be in love again.

"So, if I choose to have dessert, instead of having dinner, then should I die before night fall, I'd say I died a winner, because I missed out on nothing. I filled my heart's desire. I had that final chocolate mousse before my life expired."

With that, I called the waitress over.. "I've changed my mind, " I said. "I want what he is having, only add some more whipped cream!"

This is my gift to you - We need an annual Friends Day! If you get this twice, then you have more than one friend. Live well, love much & laugh often - Be happy.

« on: January 13, 2014, 11:48:28 AM »
Well finally got to Mystery Bay today after attempting to go there for the past five years.  There is definetly agate in the cliff easily accessible, I could see it, BUT i forgot to read the TIDE CHARTS! didn't I.  There was about two metres of water over the area where you could normally walk at low tide, bugger.  Fossickeract and Muddy are coming down at the end of the month say maybe try then, i will check the tide charts wont I.

General Discussion / New Addition
« on: November 25, 2013, 09:17:36 AM »
Hi all, just back from two weeks in Melbourne, waiting for a new arrival to the family, the little girl was ten days over.  Turned up 4.30am Friday morning 8lb 80z, 53cm long Vayda(?), she started early, typical woman keeping the men waiting, all jokes aside she's doing well.  So back home now my broken hand has mended and back into the lapidary and jewellery making for  Christmas.  beers

Just discovered this new up date on First Aid from the USA, it my save your life out on the beaten track if you accidently swallow a big gemstone:

Two hillbillies are have lunch, when a woman seated nearby begins to choke.

The hillbillie next to her says, to the woman "kin ya swollar?" The woman shakes her head no, the hillbillie asks "kin ya breath?", The woman shakes her head, no. The hillbillie gets up and walks over to the woman and lifts up her dress, yanks down her britches and licks her butt cheek. The woman has a violent spasm and spits out the food. The hillbillies buddy says, "You know I've heard of that there hind lick manueaver, but I aint niver seed no body do it.....!!!!!!!   ;D

Trip Talk / Busted hand
« on: October 07, 2013, 04:33:06 PM »
Well just came back from visiting my son at Yamba on the north coast after he had a hip operation.  I had planned to stay with him for a couple of days and then spend the next two weeks over the Gibralta Ranges to do a bit of fossicking around Glen Innes and Tinga etc.  Well it didn't happen did it!, on my second day in Yamba, I went grocery shopping at the local Coles supermarket and slipped ace over apex on some orange juice that had been spilt on the floor put my right hand out to stop my fall, 'WRONG DECISION",  I have never had so many helpfull staff in Coles as that day when I was lying on the floor.  I was taken to Maclean hospital X-rayed and it was found that I have three broken bones in my right hand and a badly bruised right hip.  So that little unexpected trip wrecked the idea of fossicking.  Ah well at least I'm still vertical, five to six weeks of no fossicking for me or silver smithing.  Will be mended just in time for Canberra Spring Gem show, looking forward to seeing Muddy and Fossickeract.

Signed Lefty.
