Ask a "Silly" Question / Finishing Zebra Stone
« on: September 06, 2011, 01:28:38 PM »
I have recently came across some nice Zebra Stone from Kunanurra and have shaped them into pendants.   Can anybody tell me if you need to polish the finished product or can you just leave it natural, any info appreciated.

Hi Folks,  I am looking for some Zebra Stone to purchase, I have a friend that carves stone and asked if I knew where she could get some.  I wouldn't mind a bit for cabbing also.

General Discussion / Fossicking Tips
« on: March 01, 2011, 12:54:08 PM »
Hi fellow rock hunters,  I am heading up to Tumbarumba this weekend.  I usually go fossicking at Paddy's flat on the Paddys river and Ruby Creek.  Has anybody got any other suggestions on fossicking locations around Tumba.

Trip Talk / Fossickers Way
« on: October 31, 2010, 02:53:44 PM »
Well just back from a long awaited trip down the fossickers way, I only have three words for it, Rain, Floods and long green grass.   Started off my trip at Broad Beach, travelled west to Canungra and checked out thunder egg caravan park, couldn't get to thunder egg mine because, the creek between us and the mine was flooded.  Travelled south, couldn't do anything at Torrington or Emmaville too much rain, check out Tigers Gap at Warialda, no petrified wood but found a lot of iron stone. Most places around Inverell/Glen Innes were closed because of the rain.  Travelled onto Bingara found the Rhodonite Mine but no Rhodonite found pieces of what I think is red jasper, continued on through Barraba, Coonabarabran stopped in at the Crystal Kingdom magnificent display of  local gem stones worth the stop.  I drooled over a few of the samples, the owners were not giving anything away to say where they had found them.  Checked a couple of places around Coonabarabran that I had been told about but after three hours of searching gave up, it was getting drier hadn't seen rain for two days.  Ending my trip at Temora where I picked up some nice samples of Temora Green Stone from a friends property.   Although the fossicking was bad still enjoyed seeing new places, try again next year. :D ??? ;)

How to post Pictures & other FAQ / Using a flat Lap
« on: July 01, 2010, 09:11:05 AM »
Hi all,
I have just became the benefactor of a 10" Steel Lap Machine,  although I have been cabbing for many years, I have never used a flat lap.  What I intend to do with this machine is to polish slices of agate, jasper etc.   I know someone on the forum can answer this question, do I apply the grits to to steel lap with water or do in need to purchase grit discs to polish.
