Cabbing and More / Problems with Polishing
« on: November 08, 2018, 09:46:39 AM »
Hi all,
Just a silly question, I have been cabbing for the passed 15 years and oringinally used Silicone Carbide Wheels on my machine, which gave a great final product.   About 3 years ago I changed to diamond wheels and have found that they leave scratches on the final surface, I have used fine grit wheels to try and get the scratches out but to no avail.   I'm thinking of going back to the Silicone Carbide, but before I do can anybody suggest what I could be doing wrong. hotthirsty

Hi Taogem,  I was just over your way about two weeks ago in Bringham City Utah, boy do you have some nice gem fields over there.  We found ammonite and trillabite fossils, as well as goedes and jasper, tourmaline, what a treasure chest.

Just wish to pick members brains, can anybody tell me if Sodalite is found in this country and where would the deposits be found.   Why I am asking this question is that a friend of mine has just come back from Emerald in Queensland and she has sent photo's to me of what looks like Sodalite, would this be possible.

Cheers Tinker beers

Okay fella's thanks for the info, its fairly soft the iron stone, so I think i might use a dremel to get some of the iron stone out, the pieces are about six inchs long and are about 10mm thick. beers

Hi, I recently came into possession of a bucket of what looks like iron stone with veins of chrysophrase through it.  Most of the Iron Stone has decomposed and easily washed of with high pressure water, but I'm wanting some advise on what to remove the rest of the hard material off the chrysophrase with.  Thanks Tinker.

Hi Bluey, I get the same type of stones down this way at Pambula NSW,  I have some pictures of them in my gallery.  Found heaps of them below an old volcanic vent, ranging from the size of marble to nearly baseball size, they have what look like agate inside them.  I also have found them in a Quarry with specimens of Agate and Carnelian.  I just call them mud eggs. beers

Fullerton, I have just posted three images of Chevron Amethyst that I have slabbed on my Gallery.  I don't think they are what you are looking for, most of the samples are a bit grainy.

Hi everyone, I am looking from amethyst rough, doesn't have to be of good quality, preferably a light mauve colour.   I have a mate that I have taught to cab rocks, he has only the use of one hand due to a tumour on the vertebrates on his neck.  He has done well for a man with his medical condition, he was asking me if I could get hold of some Amethyst,  I have tried serveral of my my suppliers but am unable to find any, can any assist me.  I have plenty of amethyst points, that I have found myself, but this is not what he wants.
