Polishing resin lures ?

Hey there guys this may be a little left of field but ive been reading about this process and was wondering if you guys could advise me if you think this process would work on polishing the fishing lures i make.. They are made of clear resin and cant really see why they couldnt be polished the same way as the gems.Any help boys on how i would go about this with which grits and polishes would be of great help as this is the process that takes the most time to finish them off and is very labour intensive, so this could be a great way to polish off and same me heaps of time

I would have thaught some clear coat over the paint job would have done the polishing for you. A polishing disk with cerium oxide may do the trick. There are other polishing powders but i have no experiance with them. I used cerium oxide on a resin charm recently and it came up well.

Havent tried a clear coat over the resin yet ill give it a crack at the moment i set the lures up in low speed drill press and polish them up with a cutting compound and they do come up great but im looking at a way where i can take this labor intensive process out and have  a tumbler do it or something . Thanks though .

We've  sold tumblers to people who make jewellery out of resin - ie. large chunky bangles, earrings and the like.

Both people bought vibratory tumblers for this and have reported good success with them.  I think rotary would also work.

One customer likes their pieces to have a matt finish and so they needed a media with embedded abrasive as the finer media was giving too smooth a finish for them.  The other customer wanted to take it through to glossy polish.

You might just have to play around with the right media and number of stages required to perfect the process but should definitely be much less labour intensive.

Yer no worries they are gamefishing lures im from Tassie and we fish for bluefin yellow fin makos anything really,its getting to that time of year again and i have a heap of people putting in orders and am finding it hard to keep up with polishing as my wing man and i are quuite fussy on the final finish.Google tight lines tasmania if ya keen great forum about what goes on down here on the fishing front.

As a bass and bream man they are probebly biger than my quarry...

To give a final polish with amber you can use old denim material (Jeans). Amber is resin so maybe give it a try.

Sorry to be a bit slow replying. I hadn't picked up your question. Just get some old denim, jeans or whatever and rub the amber or resin to polish. It the surface is very rough before you try and polish you might use 600 wet and dry sandpaper then 1200 before the polish.

Someone here suggested putting pieces of leather in their tumbler to assist with polishing.

You could do a similar thing with denim or even the leather might work with these lures I think.

I think the question could possibly be 'Is it just the denim itself or are you putting something on the denim when you rub, eg rouge, diamond or other'?

back again  a gloss is what im after looking at buying first machine this week any ideas guys on the type of media to make this happen. When the lures come out of the moulds they are quite good now we just need to hit it with a polishing cloth with some polishing paste and they nearly come up like glass. This is the finish im after

Timber, plastic and Resin lures can be both sanded or polished using Tumblers
Timber is best Dry sanded with Garnet, pumice or pieces of abrasive cloth, Plastic and Resin lures wet tumbled with standard tumbling media's and polishes
