Merry Christmas and a happy New Year
« on: December 23, 2010, 05:09:09 AM »
Been following you folks around for another year already, what fun, and I've learned some too. Want to wish all a very Merry Christmas and Happy new year. May your rocks surface easily and polish well.

Larry, it's been a pleasure having you join us and thanks for the wishes.  :-*
Hang on...Oregon!!!! MAN are you in a good spot.
Please tell me you get your Sunstone and opal. Tell me, what colour is your opal? Is it just that deep golden brown I've seen or are there other colours?

May you have a safe and memorable Christmas and hope you're not too cold.  brrr
Keep em comin!!!

A very happy and safe Christmas to all. Special wishes to those ALFers in Central Queensland. It looks as though it is all wet, wet, wet, on the weather front yet again.
Looking forward to the accounts of the various expeditions in the coming year. It seems that no matter where we go, water for sieving and panning will not be an issue in the coming year.
Cheers,
Allan

A Happy Christmas and New Year to all.  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

brrr!! A very Merry Christmas and a Happy Noo Year to everyone on the forum, from a very cold and icy England (-15 degrees C last night!!) brrr.

Its o.k tho, i'm still in holiday mode from your lovely warm weather (been back a month already!). Snow is nice, but after a couple of weeks it gets a bit boring!!
Had a great time in Melbourne and Sydney, went fossicking with fellow forum member Cainozoic, had some little bits of (beginners) luck, will post some photos in the next week or so, now i have a new camera,
Have a great festive season beers,
Cizza

The weather in the northern hemisphere is getting a lot of coverage on the news here. I for one do not envy you. It has been very wet here especially in Queensland this last week but at least we are not frozen. Looking forward to your photos,
Cheers,
Allan

In response, yes Mehoose we get our sunstones; ourselves. Been in there [about 7hr. from home] 3 times, digging & sifting or surfacing generally produces about a pound per hour between the two of us. Most are small by our standards and we tumble them, but some are large enough to facet, a friend did up three for us from our last trip. About 1 in 10 have the copper shiller in them. Have yet to find any reds or greens, all the typical yellowish color, but still fun.  It's quite a sight at night to shine a light across the ground; it's fairly barren except for sagebrush, and the reflection is as if the entire area is covered with tiny bits of broken glass.
We don't do "Pay to Play", no fun, prefer to hunt our own pretties, so our opal finds are limited to common opal. Rarely we find a piece solid enough to shine up, no fire at all, but about any color you can think of.
We are fortunate, being about 62km. inland from the coast, after a good solid freeze and a little snow the last week of Nov., we have been very wet but mostly above freezing. Many others on the north side of this big ball are really getting hammered by winter.

Even the copper schiller ones are pretty llarson. Have seen some fantastic reds and greens cut, really stunning. Yet to cut some but they are definitely on the 'one day' list.
the opals are still pretty, someone called Steve from your side of the pond has made some gorgeous freeform cabs out of the yellows.
Keep em comin!!!
