hi guys, all the locals up here refer to it as rubyvale creek but im sure we are talking about the same creek. The floods up here during our spring have moved a lot of rock and wash so the creeks are refreshed to a certain degree, but the streams are still high and its hard to get into the deep parts of the creek. But there is still gems to be won, i watched a twelve year old girl find a 2 carot garnet in a little pocket of wash on the side of the creek.
I am out at paddy's bend camping area most weekends except after good rain(like we had last week). So to anyone coming up just let me know when and I will do my best to be out there to meet you and show you around and the sort of spots i have been hitting the good black jack and gems.
thank you to everyone that has shown interest.

ok so after rereading all the posts and checking my calender I think the second weekend on the 12th and 13th would be the best weekend(sorry tinker i cant make it on the first weekend). If anyone is unsure on how to get out to paddy's river camping area i can meet them in town and show the way.
thanks again

Hi I am new to this site and it's great to see areas we can go fossicking. My wife and I are in Tasmania for 3 weeks holiday we have found a few Black Jack's in the Wield River and also some Smoky Quartz. We might go to Tumbarumba one day with our caravan sounds like a great place to stay, how can I contact you?  Thanks David.

Hi Madhawk. I originally come from Jingellic, now live in Canberra. Very familiar with Tumba area though have never done any fossicking there. Would love to come down an do some. Are high banker sluices allowed or is it entirely by pan & seive?

hi jeffu, the laws here are the same as the rest of nsw, so best to just go to the gov website and check it out there. however we have had so much rain up here the last 2 weeks that the creeks are full of water so i would not rush here for a fossick for at least a few weeks and thats if we dont get anymore rain. But when the conditions are right come on up and we will go find a gem or 2 !!
thanks andy

Hi Mudhawk

I'm keen to try for sapphires there. Is it worth coming to Tumbarumba now?
cheers
