Far north coast fossicking sites
« on: April 23, 2012, 09:52:35 AM »
Hey everyone,
Im new to this site and was hoping to get abit of help/advice.
The other day a friend took me to a place out the back of byron bay, and we found some really nice bits of carnelian. After having this experience i would like to find some different sorts of crystals. Ive heard theres lots of thunder eggs, chalcedony, amethyst and smokey quartz etc around my area, and i was hoping someone could give some information of some nice fossicking places around byron bay area?
Thank you very much
 ;D

Good morning Alf,
There is a local lapidary club with good rooms and equipment next to the little Tyagarah airport just a few ks north of Byron Bay along the highway. 8 years have passed since I was a member but there is a good chance if you called in there you could get some useful local information.
yours tropically, Harry

Here's a site that's been posted before ... not sure how long it would take to drive there but I assume within a few hours http://aussiesapphire.com.au/forum/index.php?topic=332.0

It's at a lookout so not an official fossicking area so specking rather than digging may be wise.
