Kuridala was relatively easy to access. The ladies at the Cloncurry sold me the book with the mudmaps and they were pretty accurate.

The digging there is fairly strenuous but rewarding. One side of the hill gave up amethyst and the other clear quartz...fascinating!

It is the quietest place I have been with no noise, birds, insects included after 6.30pm.

While a 4wd is not essential, the clearance of a bigger vehicle makes the run in easier.

I hope to have access to Wyloo in the coming weeks and a site at Mt Phillip station is giving up amethyst too. I hope to get there in the coming weeks before it gets 40+ all the time.

Looks like your having a lot of fun out there Wallie. I'd be struggling with the 40 degree heat.  hotthirsty  hotthirsty  I guess your starting very early before it gets too hot.  I hope you'll be posting some pics of the places your visited and the rocks you found.

Cheers  beers

I managed to get to the Mt Phillip location yesterday. It is a long drive from Carnarvon with an 800km round trip...a bit silly for a day trip really but I have made arrangements to stay out there next time.

The amethysts look as though they have been broken up and few points were found. The colour is nice and I found two quite orange citrine points. It has been picked over but being the first there since the summer rains meant picking on the walls was profitable. I'll post some photos later.
The station owner said there was another location a bit further along on a 4wd station track and also showed me some lovely dravite crystals that have been found on the station.

Is there green tinged quartz? I have found a few pieces with just a hint of green but we'll see what they look like after their acid bath,

Did you get into Mooka Springs wallie? Sounds like a great trip. I spoke with the station manager at Lyons River last time I was out there, he's promised me next time he'll take me out to Mt Phillip.

Hello Bucket,
If I'm around I'll happily take you to either of those locations. I have another 5 or 6 lined up where I'm hoping to access more amethyst, gemmy smoky quartz, tourmaline and possibly beryl. It is difficult finding out whether the land is under lease.  I also have a rose quartz locationed lined up with one of the ex-roo shooters. That will be a fun trip.

Thanks for the offer wallie, but I won't be up that way for at least 12 months, this year FNQ is being blessed with my attendance. My daughter in laws family live up that way so I have contacts in the Gascoyne and I was able to visit Mooka last year when I was there.

Navneetgems, do you supply rough stone or just cut? I think you may get more interest on this site if you supplied gemstone rough.

The Wyloo mine is once again operational with some stunning crystals and clusters being found. The new owner appears to be doing very well and getting material back on to the market. He has allowed Outback Mining access and their website is showing a sample of what is currently being mined.
