Fossicking around Northam/Toodyay, W.A

Hi, I am new to fossicking and need some help identifying pastoral land from privately owned land. I know I am allowed onto pastoral leases with permission from the owner, and was hoping someone could clarify whether the properties around Northam/Toodyay are considered pastoral leases or not. I know they are used for dryland agriculture, but are not excessively big like the properties up north. I checked lists of pastoral leases in W.A and can't seem to find any located in that area. Has anyone got any experience fossicking in the York/Northam/Toodyay hills area? Or for that matter anywhere within a days driving range of Perth? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Would imagine that most of the land around that part of the woods is all privately owned as opposed to leased. The exception might be to any Crown Land that may exist in the area.

Also interested in these areas as live in Perth also

My understanding of WA protocol over the years is that you need to join a club to gain access on the approved club field trip(you're right Butts, most areas are private property). Any access external to these events gets one banned from clubs etc.
There's a few clubs in WA that you can join now and generally if you're a member of one club means you can tag along on another club's outing.

I was in the Army Cadets as a kid, spent a lot of time at Northam Army Baracks, been thinking recently about how good it would be to detect that site.

Also out the back of Gidgjeganup(sp) there are some good creeks I used to pan in as a kid. Had no idea what I was doing back then (like I do now? lol) but found some nice rocks.

Hi Butts I'm originally from Perth and have prospected ( and fossiked) in WA.

I think if you approach Adrian Morrisey at Meeline station Mount Magnet he might afford you permission of entry
onto the station. I say might.....no promises.

I too spent time at Northam camp. Was a section commander (lead scout) with 16 battalion in the mid 70s.

Hey, just a quickie, do you reckon you would find a bit of gold around Northam/Toodyay/York, I live in Northam and reckon there would be a little, just seeing as the area was overlooked by many of the prospectors and like in the early days.
