Sapphire Mining Meeting
« on: September 06, 2013, 05:56:13 PM »
Can anyone from Sapphire/Rubyvale fill me in on what the meeting was for at Sapphire yesterday. I didn't realize it was on and was too late to attend.  By the huge number of cars present and the three police officers on hand, it looked like it was important.

Any info would be appreciated.

Sioux

ps. I am a member of the Sapphire Producers Assoc but don't receive any news from them.

Hey Sioux. I believe that the meeting is on on Sunday. Today was the big poker run, 400+ bikes.

I think it is about the new changes to the Act and in regard the renewal of the ILUA.

I am unable to attend as I am going to be busy with the Gemfields RFB
I started out with nothing
And still have most of it left.

No Bluey, I saw the bikies at the football fields, this was at the community centre in Sapphire. Lady at the
Bluegem said it was a miner's meeting.

I didn't realize it was on Bluey. With soooo many cars there I reckon it must have been important.

I will check the boards this morning when I go out to vote.

Will see if I can catch up with Jim and see if he attended. Will try to get some info.

They sometimes post info at the Rubyvale PO. Will check.

Hi Sioux,
I was at the meeting, and nothing has changed for the small claims miner, only that you don`t have to wait 5 yrs from the date of purchase to sell your claim. ( they were considering a 5yr holding period to stop people real estating)
Large lease holders had some changes for the better. (some fees wavered etc.)

The discussion about the native title got a bit hot. It appearers that no tribe has ever been granted LEGAL native title over the gemfields,.
There is a court case coming up in a couple of years to determine which tribe (if any) has legal right to the area! Some people with local  info on this area were saying that the two tribes  making claim to this area were brought here from Sherberg / Murgon  and have no legal claim to this area!
It seems that the original tribe were all wiped out in a massacre, and there are no surviving ancestors. I suppose this is for the federal court to determine.
When your renewal is due, it will cost you  $1,500  to advertise by yourself or about $450 each for a group of 16 people to do 1 full page add in the local  CQ news.  You must then negotiate a one- off  compensation payment with the two tribes making claim,  and if no agreement can be reach within a 6 month period, the mines department will intervene to get things going again.
So you don`t have to worry about this till your claim comes up for renewal again!
Maybe the court will throw the whole case out with a bit of luck.

Nothing has been decided about the use of machinery on our small claims as yet!  They said this is  because the claims would be mined out too quickly. But it`s still not definitely decided yet!

ps    You can still carry on mining your claim as usual till everything is sorted out!

Rob.

Thanks for the info rob. Our claims are due in about three years so hopefully things will be sorted out by then.
