Hung up the shovel
« on: June 18, 2009, 01:28:52 PM »
Well, I'm done for the winter.  Hung up the shovel and oiled the pick.

Not going out till the weather gets warmer, and I don't have to loose a finger to frost bite when I doing my wash.

These few months will really get the itch going, and I hope to scratch it at the Mini Minerama.

So if I am not around too much on the forum, you can drop me an email.

Gee Mithras,

I can fully understand that, I reckon you would get frost bite and chilled to the bone down your neck of the woods.

The weather up here in central QLD is beautiful the last few days. When it gets a bit nippy we light the pot belly to warm the house down a bit.

Take care,
Deb ;D

Hi Ben,

Not really sure as between Gladstone and Rockhampton, not on the gemfields.

Usually though out there the days are beautiful and warm and the nights are a bit nippy, but all in all you wouldn't freeze to death. A nice toasty campfire, a warm sleeping bag in a tent and you should be right.

Take Care,
Deb ;D

I'm sure Ben's fiancee would appreciate even a slight improvement over the -2 degrees C they experienced at Stanthorpe recently.  Give that girl a medal !!!  A freezing day here today so wouldnt be fun puddling about in the creek.  I think Mithras has the right idea.

cheers

Hi Leah,

See now this is why we luv ya. You could say come on down, even though you know they would be very cold. I agree Ben's fiance does deserve a medal after going to Stanthorpe brrrrrrrrrrrr to cold for this white duck.

Mithras does have the right idea, but when the bug bites its very hard not to want to go regardless of the weather, I have to say that was me around 20 years ago, gee thats showing my age now.

Mind you craig did offer me a trip out there in early May, but he had holidays to do fencing and felt for the safety of the Alpacas and Poultry the fencing was so much more important then my overwhelming desire to fossick. Gonna hang out till MM for that urge.

Leah don't ever stop being the caring person you are.

Big Hugs,
Deb :-*

Hi,I am heading out to the gem fields early July the days are great, can get a bit hot though around middle of the day. nights are cool sometimes you wake to a frost. Sometimes l wear a sloppy joe till 8.30 am then it comes of, the weather is perfect.

                                                                 Cheers Gussyy.

I was going to suggest some of those pva gloves for when you've you got your mits in the sieves. I found that it always helps a little to combat the cold waters if you tend to get those snap frozen fingers. Soon as the day warms up you should be fine to put them aside though.

Hi Michael
What's going on, was it or was it not you, that went fossicking with me and Lesley in the snow at Oberon? and was it not just after we had helped Ray change a tyre in the snow/sleet. I'll post some photos when I figure out how to do it.
You must be getting soft.
Xleech has the right idea, rug up, waders and thick pvc gloves. No worries.

Last week during my time off I was going to go to Oberon - it was planned for Weds.  The presence of snow made me woose out though.  I went up a few years back during similar weather and once was enough....

Shane

Oh Shane,

Didn't you want to turn into the Abominal Snowman, or worse yet just a Snowman where someone will come along and stick a carrot in your nose ;)

that weekend was mighty cold.  I'm keen, but digging cold mud, washing in ice water, changing tyres in the snow, and sleeping in the back of the ute, with the windows frozen over was a bit much for me.

I will wait for the spring.  BTW, dom.  those photos are great. ;D
