Heading to Glen Innes, camping spots?
« on: September 17, 2014, 03:23:46 PM »
Hey all,

We are planning a trip to Glen Innes. Initially we planned to stay in a motel but are now considering camping instead.
Has anyone got recommendations on places to pitch a tent and have fire? Also, places to avoid.. lol

Thanks
Ash

Ash

You could try Billabong Blue for both camping & fossicking (FEE)

Or I think you can also camp & fossick for free at Nullamanna fossicking reserve (although you may need a 4wd to get through the gate - It was pretty rough a couple of years ago)

Or there is the caravan park in Glen Innes

Cheers
Baaa humbug, not enough fossicking time!

There are a few caravan parks at Glen Innes - all offer camping sites I think. Check gleninnestourism.com for more info on the various caravan park options.

You can also try these - need to pay for camping but I think guests can then fossick free:

Three Waters
Bullock Mountain
Boolabinda

There are also some good national park camp sites not too far from Glen Innes in all directions - obviously no fossicking there but beautiful spots for bushwalking and camping.

it's certainly more convenient to camp where you can fossick... Makes me want to go camping just thinking about it!

Also a friendly caravan park at Tingha  :)

As for fires check the Rural fire brigade info online incase of fire bans. http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fdr-and-tobans
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

might be a bit late now but Boolabinda was recommended too us in 2013 when we first headed to Glen Innes, we where quite happy with the site, so much so we are heading back there with several of our club members next weekend for a fossick. Its a very beautiful area, just watch out for cattle and roos on the the road in!

And deer on the track in.  Spotted a few last year.

And, of course, leeches in the creek.
Incidentally, my best day at Boolabinda produced a bucket, a tube of sun cream and a plastic bottle of small sapphires found floating in the creek.

Hi Folks
I am looking at coming out to glen Innes with the family for some fossicking after spending Xmas with Family at Pottsville.
I have looked at all of the above venues and they all look good.
Is there any one better than the others.
I hail from Far North Qld and do most of my fossicking in the coastal Creeks around Cairns for gold and out at Mt Surprize for Topaz and Aquamarine (I should be so lucky !)
I have my own fossicking gear but want a good family friendly site with nice creeks to swim in & Shady wet fossicking areas.
If I dont make it fun and easy for the family, I wont get this project off the ground !
I would appreciate your feedback.
Cheers
Ian
