Just received my new books today - 'Amateur Gemstone Faceting' Volume 1 (The Essentials) and Volume 2 (Expanding Your Horizons).  :o

Over 800 pages of well illustrated information that seems to cover every question you may have. From a brief flick through it is well worth the $62.35 including postage.

These look good OrangePirate, where did your get your from?
Would like to read about building one other those angle encoders, looks very interesting.
Going to get them, just looking for cheapest place to buy.

You can buy from Amazon.  The website http://www.facetingbook.com/purchase.html  gives links to the items.
Might be cheaper deals but would seem direct from author should be best way??

Yep! That's the way I did it. Back in December both books including postage was $63 Au. Payment went through on the 8th and I had them by the 15th.

They are both well written books and the author has knows how to keep your attention. A big thumbs up from me. You'll enjoy it.

My books arrived today. ;D I had already worked out how to build the angle encoder setup, but the depth of cut indicator got me by surprise. What an awesome idea, simple but absolutely brilliant.  Could take a bit of playing around with different resistors and capacitors but once tuned to your machine there would not be a better indicator... Worth buying the books just for just that imo. 
Been doing some ebaying, got all the bits for the angle encoder/depth of cut unit etc on the way.
