lead glass filled sapphires
« on: December 16, 2014, 01:19:10 AM »
Hey everyone so quite a while ago before I got the hang of buying gem rough I got a parcel of sapphire rough from some bloke and the stones which Id been shown weren't what I received. In that parcel there was a blue-purple piece of rough which I instantly picked as being dodgy just cos so much of it looked and felt wrong (especially as it was supposedly untreated Australian rough) so I got one of my friends who is in the Adelaide branch of the GAA to check it out. After doing all the tests that they can do in the Adelaide office they determined it was a lead glass filled blue sapphire and apparently the 1st case which they have heard of it occurring. So yea just a bit of a heads up to everyone that there are now lead glass filled blue sapphires out there so just be a bit wary about the stones you get.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.
