Hi all. Heading back for mount surprise on the weekend I decided to take a look at the fossicking area at lava plains. When I arrived I read the signed and it directs to call the station manager before entering. I would like to know if this still applies or is this an old sign that needs an update?

Hi Christen.  :)
there are actually two fossicking areas at Lava plains.  The one that is opened and you have to walk in to is the one on this topic

The second one is still in the process of being opened as a designated fossicking area so you probably would need to check with the station manager.

After you go to Mount Surprise could you please let us know if the Elizabeth Ck campground is still open. Rumours have cropped up that Maureen has stopped running it and has left.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

[/quote]Hi. I was out at o'brien's creek last weekend. Sorry I made a typo. I`m happy to report that the camp grounds are open and Maureen is good and still running the grounds. Elizabeth creek is looking very low for this time of the year. Still water in O'Brien's and top creeks are damp. Saw some nice topaz coming out of O'Brien's, nice blues and clears. Didn't find much myself, maybe later in the year when the creeks dry out.  :)
