OK.

The clear winner of the "People's Choice" award goes to MakkyBrown for his Amethyst.

The Random pick from among the other entries goes to Fullarton for his "Unhappy Camper" cab.

Congrats to both - a $50 gift voucher will be emailed to you shortly.

Hope you all enjoyed the comp - if members feel they would like to do another one, let us know.  Perhaps a Faceting one this time??  Suggestions welcome.

Cheers
Leah

It was good fun Leah.  Thanks so much for organising and running it, and, thanks to Aussie Sapphire for providing the prizes.  I would have been good to see some more entries but I do understand... there are just not enough hours in a weekend.  Thanks again.
Congratulations to the very worthy winners !

Well done Makky, a worthy winner - your amethyst cabochon was a stand-out with great colour, patterns and polish.

Leah & Aussie Sapphire. A big thanks from me too for organising and running a great competition,  ;) 8) and if I may too, would like to paraphrase what Crocket said.  ::) It would have been nice to have seen some more entries.  There is some beautiful diverse material out there that we can get our hands on; so it would have been nice to see more of it show cased.

I was wondering perhaps the hurdle for some, isn't making the cab, its trying to take a reasonable picture, modify it and then transfer it to the picture gallery ?  ::) ;)

Well done Makky & Fullerton. Both your work was well deserving of a prize.

Yes - I think this is can be an issue which was why we made one of the prizes a random pick from all of the entries so that a good cutter with not so good photography skills/equipment can still participate and have a chance to win.

Anyone who is not sure about how to upload can send photo to us and we will do it for them.

Ultimately, the comps are over to you guys so if you want us to run another one, we are very happy to do so but please spread the word and encourage as many as possible to have a go.

cheers
Leah

Leah, thanks for your willingness and generosity with this competition.   8) :) Lets hope that, if there were any who held back entering in the last comp, will be encouraged to take up the option suggested by you and support this platform to have some fun and show case the beautiful diverse stones we enjoy transforming into sometimes unique and stunning pieces; like Makky's Amethyst.  8) :o :)  I definitely would like to see this competition continue please, perhaps on some periodical basis, like once every 2 to 3 months.   ::) ;) :)

Thankyou Aussie Sapphire for my random pick win, much appreciated. I will enjoy looking through your website to see how I can spend the voucher.

I'd be happy to see such competitions continue. A cabbing comp every second month would maintain the enthusiasm. A faceting comp could be held in alternate months if there was sufficient interest (though that's up to others as I'm a cabber, not a facetor).

I would be happy to contribute a prize or two along the way for cabbing comps ... perhaps some Australian lapidary rough, mineral/crystal specimens or gemstones.

Cheers,
Fullerton

ok.

Let's do it again then.

We will close it around about end of August.

The very rough (and not compulsory) guideline is unusual shape in any format - so it can be carving, cabbed stone, or faceted gem.

If you are just a beginner and are only confident doing a round brilliant or standard oval cabochon, that is absolutely fine.  But we welcome free form cabbing, faceted designs that are a bit more unusual - basically anything goes.

We will offer up the same two prizes.  If anyone else wants to contribute, then we will add more winners.

Will post up a new pinned thread when I get a chance.

cheers
Leah
