Heading to Gemfest
« on: August 05, 2015, 04:48:40 PM »
I'm currently in Airlie Beach with my son's wedding out of the way. On Friday we head across to the gemfields to partake in Gemfest for three days. Just curious if anyone else is going to be there, would love to catch up for a cuppa (or otherwise).  Also looking to do some sort of 'tag along' tour as I know little of the area and wouldn't mind any recommendations.

By the way, I'm NOT missing the weather down south!

Well Gemfest is all packed up now for another year, we're staying on until tomorrow.  What a great show! Spent  most of Saturday there and yesterday went out to Glenalva and after shifting what felt like several ton of wash, came back to the park with about 6 stones, 2 of which may cut alright, and a very sore back and arms.
Just unwinding today and will start heading south again tomorrow.  Days are still in the high twenties and sunny, lovely!

Enjoy the rest of your trip Bucket, hopefully some of that warm weather follows you south :) Are you doing any fossicking on the way home?

Planning on stopping at Inverell/Tingha for a couple of days and if Victoria has thawed out, maybe Powelltown area as I'm stopping in Melbourne for a couple of weeks before returning.
We've apparently also 'got to' stop at Mudgee for a few nights to sample the local wares....

I was disappointed not to be able to visit Tingha sands last year as we went though the area on a w/end. We did visited the rhodonite near Bingara and found a few bits but it's pretty worked over and I couldn't find where a seam of anything good was running. Did best on the old dump pile.
Safe travels Bucket.
Cheers
