First off welcome to ALF. :)

Unfortunately we can't give you a figure for this exact gem based off a picture. If it is genuine, some one might be able to give a ball park figure range for the going rate retail.

What you do have is a 'gem' cut in what we'd generally term an Emerald cut as opposed to the term table cut.  Looking at the size in the container I'm guessing here that the 17k might be referring to 17 carats in weight. No idea on the 025..maybe that's just their way of itemising which stone has been used in a sale and it's relevant photo.

Where abouts are you based? We can certainly direct you to someone qualified to ascertain it's genuine status to see if there's value in sending it off for a valuation/gem report.

Are you able to divulge how you obtained this gem?
Keep em comin!!!

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Hi.

Can you confirm it is actually a Topaz i.e. tested it refractive index or done a specific gravity test?

Do you know if it's colour stable? I only ask as some can be unstable and breakdown in sunlight permanently. Don't try it if you don't know. It can happen in a few hours.

Cheers

I took it to the Rice Museum in Hillsboro Oregon the lady is she is GIA certified and has identified it as a topaz I've had it for 4 years and multiple spectrums of light the color has not faded at all it is an emerald cut I did State table at first but I corrected myself it is 17 and a half carats I do not know the origin of the Stone I purchased it at a coin shop from somebody who did not know what they had

Well this is sounding positive! :) Was a cert. issued or just verbal discussion?ie..was it put under a barrage of tests to back her comments or just looking through a loupe and maybe an SG test?

I'm going to send you a link via pm for a chap in the next State to you. This is his business so don't expect him to do it for nothing. ;) There are different levels of certification and the price to match for each level but if this is dinkydi, no treatment,,I think heating can be a method, don't quote me, but my understanding of that is to try to achieve a pinker hue which I'm not seeing in your gem. Soooo, of a gem that size and all being 'true' you'll probably be looking at paying quite a few hundred dollars to get this done. In the overall scheme of things this stone would then be worth it due to it's size.

Just to clarify, I'm basing the suggestion of this chap seeing as you went to the Rice Museum in Oregon...you might have just been visiting the area. Let me know if I need to try to find someone more local for you.

righto, after asking elsewhere, the one I was going to suggest, Pacific Gem Labs, has been included among some suggestions.
See the link here. Beyond this I don't know what else to suggest. If it was me, I'd want proper gem identification/assessment for a 'Topaz of this size and colour'. I really hope it is the real deal for you, that would be special.  8)

You're welcome!
Let us know how you went, happy with service etc. This will give us a good starting point to assist others with the same query from your neck of the woods.

I noticed on the Pacific Gem Lab site they have a page of fees for appraisals and a sample identification one for a loose diamond but I'd imagine the colour gemstone info to be similar..which is showing a 'value'.
Keep em comin!!!
