Emmaville Emerald Mine
« on: March 12, 2017, 09:14:07 PM »
After reading all these threads about places closing down I thought this was a bit of good news:

The old De Milhous Mine in Emmaville is open for fossicking. After speaking to the owner (Stephen Cullen) at Minerama 2017, he has confirmed he's open for drop-ins to his emerald mine and geology centre.

Expect to find:
emeralds!:,

Topaz:

Tin crystals (cassiterite), beryl, fluorite, clear and smokey quartz, molybdenite and other metal ores.

Stephen has set up a small interpretive centre right next to the mine and he had bags of wash on offer as well.

Part of the road up from Emmaville was unsealed but possible with 2WD. The short ride up from the geology centre to the mine (~200m) was 4WD only.

Contact information:
Emmaville Emerald mine and geology centre
113 Summerville Rd, Emmaville NSW
Ph: 02 67347394
https://www.facebook.com/emmavillegeologycentre/

He also mentioned he's open to campers, fishing on site, etc. A great place for kids too as it's mostly specking and dry sieving.

Thanks Rej, that is good news.  I might make a return visit on my next trip north.  Look out Lord Thumder, I might drop in. :D

Yes I saw it, but it's a shame it wasn't open when we were up there a couple of weeks ago, just before all the rain. Oh well, next time! We had an absolute blast anyway, and came back with a nice little collection of sapphires, we think either clear topaz or zircon, blue topaz, quart crystals and Jellybeans. We especially liked the Torrington area, but we camped at BB for 3 days and Tingha Caravan park for 2 days which were also great fun.
We are now organising a day trip up to Oberon again, we may try a different spot to last time, but not sure where?
