UNESCO listed = No longer Australian sovereignty.

The activity it's self, is the primary topic of cultural significance.

Thanks pc bowe, There is a lot if miss-information regarding this 'Idea' in Victoria .. I have been waiting for the 'true' version of events to unfold. as I said in my previous Post on this.. When I know 'the truth' every-one will know.. The main Person/Councillor who has been pushing this has been caught-out telling Big Porkies... Saying 'This won't stop Prospectors and 4WDer's and Shooters and campers and Blah Blah Blah....But looks Like there WILL be a battle down there... Just don't know what over yet... This is a Prime Example of What we are up against with these Clowns in Power.... And Now this 'Idea' has reached QLD..  :o
At least in NSW ,we have a very Fossicking/Prospecting Friendly Minister in Power who IS listening to NAPFA and has just Declared 4 more New Fossicking Districts for Us to Enjoy... If you Log onto MINFACTS you can search How many Areas have been Declared Fossicking Districts.. This Map is NOT up to Date , but will soon be... A Win Win in NSW anyhow...
Im surprised That the Victorian Fossickers Haven't raised this issue on here Before... Unless they are up here enjoying the Sunshine... ;D

Please keep us informed on the Plan for up there Please... First I have herd of this was when I read your Post... Not Good.. ???

One wacky council idea. Heard some talk about it while at Agate Ck this year. Proposal has as much chance as a flying pig. Federal government would not approve it.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Raveshoe Late 1980's.
If I were to speculate my estimate would have been 100-120 locals attended the public meeting to address the then "Proposed" Wet tropics World heritage Listing.
Most of which signed the circulated petition to Not proceed with the Listing.
3 weeks later the Listing proposal was submitted by the then federal govt which was later ratified.

At the time the argument For the listing was.
  • The World heritage Listing would not impact existing safe guards and merely augment current Heritage and parks status.
  • The Listing was not regional wide and only applied to specific areas.
  • The economic potential of the Branding increase tourist numbers.
30 years on.
  • The Listing has become a beast, Every year the Draft Management Plan increases in size and complexity.
  • Exclusion zones, Buffer zones and access corridors are constantly reviewed. (Turns out Flora and Fauna don't respect a blue line on a map).
  • Yes. Tourism numbers have skyrocketed and while your riding that one trick pony and living in a regional centre or capital city. Bear in mind in some of the smaller towns Welfare dependency is approaching 90%.
How.
  • Over zealist bureaucracy.
  • Grants driven science.
  • External lobbyists.
  • and Career management.

Within the foreseeable future additional protection listings will be applied to many more of Australia's traditional goldfields.

Why?

Gold cyanidation.   The older the field the more prevalent this exaction method becomes or at least this seems to be the world trend.(This is the building environmental topic attached to gold).
Of course if the silly bastards actually endorsed the hobbyist and small miners to the exclusion of the commercial leaching outfits a viable common ground could be possible.

I no I'm new here and this is digging up an old thread but this is now a VERY real threat via VEAC and the Great Forest National Park.
If you haven't heard of it there is a F/B group dedicated to trying to stop this happening
