Mystery Stones
« on: May 18, 2017, 09:58:05 PM »
Have a guess what these are? I cut them a couple of days ago  ;D Great colour and sparkle nicely, look a good bit better than in photo. 7 fold srb' cut on my 28 index. I cut them fairly fast so a few meets are slightly off. Should have cleaned them a bit better looking at the photo.

Aquamarine? Or could they be topaz? Apart from that no idea.

Nice pair. Just to be different, I'm thinking there synthetic corundum, but there probably topaz.  8)

I think the rough is worn glass from an old bottle stopper like the one in the photo. I cut it into 4 bits. :)

Wish I have said my guess ... I was thinking glass too. You find this colour glass up at Eldorado.

They look that good in person Jamo, I've tricked everyone that's looked at them. There are a couple or old gemologists at the club I tempted to tell them it aquamarine and see if they pick it's not.  ;D I have noticed one bubble near the edge of one of them that's a give away but I've got some pretty good angles happening so they tilt pretty well and don't window quickly.

When you said you "cut them fairly fast" was what nailed it for me as glass. You wouldn't rush with quality gem material.

Yeah, I shouldn't of mentioned that. If you zoom in you'll see the meets aren't spot on but without magnification they look pretty good.
