Swirly,
Could it be the title "Master" is a title some just humbly apply to themselves.  ::) I'm pretty sure it is when it comes to many trades, after an apprenticeship call yourself Master whenever you want.
I think it's pretty safe to call yourself "Master" if you really want to as you more than deserve it after 40 years of faceting. :)

Cheers
Andrew

The US Facetors Guild has a Master Facetor level.  To qualify you must win in each of the three earlier levels.  To compete at the next level, yiu must first win in the earlier level.  You also have to get more than a set number of points in the comp.  I think it was 95 points.

They don't have many Master Facetors.

In the old Guild system, once an apprentice achieved a set standard they completed a masterpiece to become a master.

Perhaps we should have a master facetors level in Australia that sets a minimum threshold before you can compete and win it.

If you are regularly achieving more than 98 in open competition, I recon you should be able to call yourself a Master.

Sounds like you would be a contender for Master Facetor if we had a USFG style qualification.

I am interested to know what lead to the exhibits in the Mlb Museum?  Are they part of a display by the mineral society, or because they are remarkable.  Either way it is an impressive number.

I was thinking further on the qualification.  A true master expands and develops the craft.  I would classify Viktor T as one, he has created some stunning and complex cuts.  He has also developed cuts to a theme, like an artist.  I expect Alex W would also be classified as a master for his works on measuring brilliance, etc.
Yours Sincerely
