How hard to replace Gemmasta bearing??
« on: July 22, 2017, 07:24:02 PM »
My GF4 has begun to develop a wobble so I assume the bearing is on the way out. I am tossing up as to take it to a local mechanic or engineering shop. Any body have an experience with this?. Cannot complain as I have had it for 25 years.

I would rule out the mechanic. They use shammers and gas axes, say words like ''whoops' and phrases such is 'it was like that when you brought it in'.  ;D

I'll have to do this one day myself shouldn't be too hard. I do know Anthony Fitzgerald has done a heap of them if your in/near Sydney. You might need a press and maybe bearing puller, but then might just punch out and tap in not sure.  I  really should have a look at mine, maybe when the motor dies.

Rexl, I've found out you need to use a bearing puller and heat to release glue. I'd recommend contacting Anthony Fitzgerald I think his email is rough2cut@gmail.com
He's done a heap of them, you want it done right.  I'd also be researching bearings to find the best. Though the ones in it have done a good job.
