'New beginnings' nephrite jade
« on: August 07, 2017, 01:46:15 PM »
"new beginnings" tendril form in nephrite jade from Wyoming. Tendril is polished, seed pod is matte and oiled.

Thanks Leah, when I went into 'modify post' the photo was showing rather than the original text, what width should I set int he future? Most sites auto size.

When you edit or create a post, it shows how it is displayed unless you click the "Source" button to show the code as well.  This one is the one on the right with red square brackets enclosing a cursor arrow.

If you click that one, it will show the image tag.  I usually put width=550 in just after as that works well on most screen sizes.

ie. do this:
Code: [Select]

[img width=550]weblink here for the image[/img]

Thanks MakkyBrown, the tendril is relatively easy as it protrudes above the rest of the carving. The hard part is getting a perfect cab like dome on the side of the seed that the tendril sits on as you can't use normal cabbing gear to do it. It is also really easy to cut into the tendril too much when shaping the pod. Fun project, I can recommend it, every carving throws up a new challenge.

Great result Southerly, jade can be a severe pain to finish, every piece has its own challenges, sometimes a mix of satin and high polish looks better, gives it more contrast, us carvers are rare here, great to see you finished this.
