Stiff Excreta stories
« on: September 10, 2017, 01:53:37 PM »
I'll start - had the usual example today.  Started cutting a garnet last night and spent a couple of hours perfecting the pavilion (PCP design so I complete the facets, including polishing) just 'tweaking up' the girdle polish and must have pressed a tiny bit too hard and the stone heads west.  Only a small stone and obviously re-dopped to be even smaller.

Don't you hate the waste of time and effort when this happens?

The funny thing was this came up in Unread Posts - so you don't immediately look at what section it is in.  My originally thoughts based on the subject was whether this was going to be a funny story about being out bush and not having enough fibre in the diet!!

The angular deflection of my machine's spindle differs depending on whether I am running plated or batt laps...
Normally this isn't much of a problem but for this one stone I chose to cut a 6.5 degree tier on the batt instead of on the plated due to size.
It didn't cut much out of my batt but there is an obvious ring where the point of the stone has taken material out of the lap instead of being supported by the embedded diamond.
