Mr Tumbles property at Silent Grove torrington now closed.

Not happy  >:(

Following information from a FB site.

For those who are unaware, all access to Mr Tumbles has been blocked INDEFINITELY. Someone thought they'd be clever by going in with a bulldozer and cutting a new face to rip out all the smokies they could find. Now no-one can get in there.

There goes another area that was offered by a lovely person to fossickers. This spot has also been used with permission as a field trip for Minerama in the past.

Jimnyjerry, to add a little perspective the locals have on occasion used dozers to open up productive spots. A dozer was used at the back of bismuth to open up a trench until the landholder found out. On another occasion a couple of locals used a dozer or backhoe to excavate a massive vugh at Silent Grove. Needless to say it resulted in mostly broken crystals but rumour has it that they still made $20k from what they were able to salvage. Some locals play by the rules, others over the last 10-20 years have done the wrong thing. I've heard reports of multiple significant quartz finds (and occasional beryl) being dug and sold for good $$ over the years. Even now you'll find at least one dedicated Facebook Group allocated to selling Torrington quartz crystal finds.
I have no idea what the inside story is to the Mr Tumbles but I can't see someone floating in a dozer for the sake of some crystals, the economics don't work. Whatever was done would likely have been done with the assistance of local machinery and knowledge. Unfortunately these actions have impacted those of us that do play by the rules  >:(

Not sure what the back story is. But all too often this happens, and there is one less site for  enthusiasts who only want a handful of stones compared to those who think they need a trailer load full. All too often Gem Clubs are their own worst enemy. The greed of some clubs and the lack of sharing with other members is all too prevalent. I have seen this all too often. These days I go alone or with family on field trips. And remember a secret spot is "NEVER SECRET" once a gem club gets hold of information.

True Cliffsearch, I have seen the Destruction first hand on a property East of Glen Innes..
Once the Owner started allowing clubs only in, he soon realised that maybe allowing 1 or 2 families instead,  would have been a better choice... Rip and Reap...

I don't know the Torrington and Mr Tumbles area at all but there can't be too many dozers/backhoes in the vicinity and its not exactly easy to move those around quietly. Surely with a bit of investigation they could put a trespassing charge on someone?? (Or at least put the word out that they are looking)

I think the last action taken up that way was when a local 'grower' who used to take pot shots at people in the state forest was finally arrested and that was for burning down someones shack, not the shooting or the crop. Luckily the people got out of the shack in time.

Do not think the local police try to look at the area.

Local Cops can't do 'Local' Business... They have to come from Tenterfield or Glen Innes... ::)
