Nullamanna
« on: January 27, 2018, 01:53:42 PM »
Hi All,

Nullamanna is the free fossicking area just north of Inverell.  A search brings up very few comments on it.  I know it would have been pretty worked over before being declared a public area and it has been there for quite some time but I'd love to hear from people who have worked there how they went!  In particular whether they had more success digging in the sides or they were in the creek.

Looking forward to hearing from people!

Hi

We went last year and loved it. We got heaps of black tourmaline in quartz. Polishes up beautiful. So good we’re heading there again at Easter

Hi koraju! Your description sound like Wallangra rather than Nullamanna. You could check out my blog on Wallangra for more info. The link is below.
It's been a long time since I went to Nullamanna, but my first visit was in 1967. The most recent was probably in 1990.
Regards, John

Just refreshing this.  I'm surprised nobody has had anything material to say!

Anyone here a member of the Inverell Lapidary Club?  Would be grateful if you could ask others you know.

Mr Sydney I think Gemster said it all.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Didn't reply in the last round as it has been a few years since I was there. I was there about 5 years ago and did ok. I went upstream a bit and managed to dig in some hard dirt around a boulder on the edge of the creek. For only one day from memory I got about 7 sapphires. I would think it would be worthwhile giving it a shot. Whilst it has been well dug, no one ever gets all the stones. Cheers

There is some truth to this - you have to work harder in these sort of areas but there is usually still something left.

You wont find a cutter in every sieve of wash but experienced fossickers should not be expecting this in any case.

cheers

I went to Frazers Creek where the concrete causeway is in November. Is this the area relating to the post? Dug around for ages with no result, went back to the car to get me specs and bugger me...a little blue fella right beside the wheel of the car!

Hi All,

Missy P - It is on Frazers creek - there is a big bridge over the river but not a concrete causeway I saw at all.

There is nowhere easy any more.  Otherwise it would get hit and it wouldn't be that good any more.

Jamo - 7 sapphires - are you talking small cutters here or 7 specks?  If it were 7 cutters - however small - that would be a good day these days!

Here you go I found a pic of what I found. Mostly small ... they are in my collection ... somewhere. Have not had any cut.

Just spent a day fossicking at the public area here at Frazers, all we found was a thin sliver of sapphire. Better than nothing!
