1 Put a picture on this forum.
2 Take them to a lapidary club. Someone will try to identify them for you.
3 Join the lapidary club, and work the stones you have and find some more.
Welcome to the forum Rickjamez.   I hope that these bottles will lead you into this wonderful hobby.
Regards,
Ghost.

Hi Rickjamez,

If they're in bottles ... are you sure they're not opals or sapphires? (most commonly stored in bottles)

As well as the great options given by Ghost, there are also a few facebook groups such as 'Rock and stone identification'and 'Rocks, fossils and minerals identification'.

We all love a good unknown mineral/gem mystery so a few handpicked items posted here to test us is good too. It helps, though not always critical, if you know roughly where they came from as that will indicate the likely geology.

The other option is just to start googling ... which is how a lot of us learnt. Plus some basic tests ... hardness to start with, streak test, etc.

Have fun sorting them out ...

Cheers,
Fullerton

Agreed with all of the above, if it's a really old collection, even the bottles could be of value.
