Need help with a broken Hall
« on: March 15, 2018, 08:49:17 PM »
Helping to fix a mates machine and having some trouble finding this part. It's a 200k carbon film potentiometer ganged to a 250v 4 pole switch, the potentiometer is in the voltage circuit and needs to have a insulated shaft. Really dodgy way to wire up a device but it is what it is. I'm guessing this part failing is a common occurrence and I hope someone can fill me in on where to get this. Rather not have to send it back on warranty based on the company's track record of delays.

Many thanks in advance

I would ring the manufacturer.  He may be able to supply a part or give an idea of turn around time.

I spoke to him a couple of  years ago when getting quotes on machines.  He was quite approachable and willingly explained how to calibrate the  machine so you could read hundredths off the dial indicator.

The main issue with delays is that it takes him about a week to make each machine as he works alone and at the time he had 40 back orders.

I don't think repairing a speed controller would take very long.

Laurie Hall is out of the business now, has been for five or six years, as far as I know his son still repairs them.

The design for the machine was sold to an American firm.

Laurie Hall died last year . age 93 , but for some years the Hall - Xtra machine has been made and sold by Peter ( have forgoten his surname) in Cairns. His business name is Unamit ( pronounced You Name It). Phone  07 4053 1474.
Friends of mine have one of these machines and have always found him helpful.
