Middendorp Quarry, Victoria, Australia
« on: April 01, 2018, 09:31:43 PM »
Hello everyone.

Does anyone here know the location of Middendorp quarry or Collins Quarry? All I know is that it is in Kinglake Victoria and many beautiful fossils have been found there.

Thanks,
Daniel

I'm not at all sure but I remember some talk around the club of collecting fossils at the Kinglake Rubbish tip many moons ago.
Could it be that the quarries became landfill sites?

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Here's both the 'mud maps' from the above links transposed onto an old ESRI map. Both the Collins Quarry locations line up and the Middendorp locations are in a very similar area.
The Collins Quarry seems to line up with, what seems to be a modern building in the forest on Camp road.
May be worth asking there.

I'll put up a more recent map of the transposed areas later.

Lots of good information there.
I noticed a couple of collecting localities east of the Melba Hwy near the KInglake turnoff, it could be worth having a look at those especially where they put the big pipeline in, the strata would be all buried again but there could be bits of rock laying about.
From Orange pirates map there are a couple of lacalities on the road close to those quarries, probably road cuttings.
At Heathcote I know they found fossils in a road cutting on the Northern Hwy near Mt Ida (near the track to the fire tower) I couldn't find it though.
Nice Crinoid fossils can be found on Mt Ida.

Fantastic Graptolites can be found at Bendigo and Chewton
