Sapphire/Rubyvale tips
« on: May 09, 2018, 06:03:28 PM »
Hi all,

Heading up to rubyvale/sapphire area and was wondering if anyone had any tips for fossicking around there? This will be my first time looking for sapphire and zircon. Also wondering the condition of the tracks leading into the fossicking areas as I don't have a 4x4 at the moment.

Cheers

HiCeast24 tracks into most areas are ok for 2 wheel drive some can be a bit corrugated  Russian gully can be worth a dig but you have to go down 4 or 5 feet in places can camp thereas well. Still some good stones at tomahawk  creek about 50km out of Rubyvale also Glenalva about 30 km out it has some good stones just bear in mind they are far from easy to find you will need crow bar or pick shovel and sieves also a tub to wash the stone in most of these areas have no water so you must bring your own as its the dry season you cant rely on rain also can get very cold at night will be down to 7 next week some nights hope you have fun and take care you will need a Queensland fossiking licence as well hope this helps.
