Advice needed on the Hall Xtra faceting machine
« on: April 04, 2019, 09:17:25 PM »
Gidday all
I am thinking of getting this machine from Peter @ Unamit  as my very first faceting machine.
I cannot find any video clips on YouTube so I am going in blind.
I am joining a gem club here in Melbourne in the next few weeks, to understand them a bit better.
Any advise would be very much appreciated.

Cheers guys

Hi Lenkiely56,

I learned on a Hall delux.  The Halls have been a reliable machine over the years.  I enquired about buying 3 Halls for a lapidary club a couple of years ago but at that time the wait was 6 months.

You may wish to ask Peter how long you have to wait for your machine.

Regards
Flash
Yours Sincerely
Flash (Gordon)

Peter's ill health problems may or may-not  be over now.   Check delivery delay as advised.
Our group members at Victor Harbor, including me, have two Hall Extras from Unamit and can highly recommend these machines.
We are both very happy with our machines.   I have had mine for almost 10 years.   The other owner upgraded from an earleir Hall, but had to wait 15 months for delivery.
Regards,   Ghost.

My club has one on order, the wait is in the region of six to 9 months.

Thanks guys, much appreciated, Peter is fine, i spoke to him and he said waiting time is up to 4 months, he is now doing aussie orders now before international orders. I told him he is not allowed to kick the bucket till he makes mine.

We've got two Halls, and Xtra and a 2000, I've just bought a VJ so the Extra will be going on the market soon if you're interested. Probably 3 -4 weeks, only problem is we're on the Gold Coast. PM me if you'd like to discuss

Been using one for a few years now and love it . Our faceting club just bought two and although there was a time run out it wasn't chronic ....much easier than any other to fit digital protractor to, which by the way is a game changer, nice and light and portable, and  leaves in, my humble opinion, the gemmaster for dead.

Coincidentally spotted a Hall extra for sale at the Sapphire Market just last Sunday - it included about 50 dops, 2 transfer jigs (not a fan of the Xtra transfer jig though) polish in varying grades, about 12 polishing laps including Kat, Bat, Aluminium, type metal and copper as well as some of the concave cabbing laps - also instruction manuals and other stuff. It was being sold by a local miner and pro cutter 'Mick'. I had a quick look for one of our gem club members but as he had just got a machine I didn't look any closer - on face value it seemed in pretty good nick but he wanted $3600 for the lot -  can't offer anything further on it or it's actual quality though.

My wife's Xtra is on the market, another member has shown interested as I mentioned around a month ago that it was going to come on the market, waiting to hear back from him/her.

It's been fully serviced, new bearings, belts etc and is accurately aligned, within 1/100th mm across the lap, so a good, clean unit.

I'll go through and see if I can add some laps to the package as well.

PM me if you're interested. We're on the Gold Coast.

Hope that's not an apprentice's Long Wait  :)
I had a Hall on order back in 2016/2017 from Unamit but ended up cancelling after the communication dropped away (following more than 6 months wait) Ended up getting a Facetron which I could get almost immediately at the time.
I felt that I was getting old from the waiting, hopefully production has been streamlined now.
