Beechworth & Eldorado
« on: April 23, 2019, 07:13:34 PM »
Hi all,

I stumpled  across this awesome forum a while ago and we ended up booking a tour with a couple that everyone had recommended.
Well , we're hooked now.
We're camping in Beechworth this week and are wondering if there's anyone who would like to show us the ropes of panning or/and gem fossicking?

Hi and welcome Missy 87.   :) I was there about 2-3 weeks ago. Unless there has be some decent rain, you will find a lot of Reedy Crk dry; which makes it difficult for panning, but then the creek beds are more exposed for specking  for gemstones.  So for panning I found it best looking for pools upstream of Kangaroo Crossing. Actually my fossicking buddy found a nice banded agate and Smokey pointer along the sandy beeches near the ford crossing.  Try scratching  around with a rake particularly around bushes and rocks. Good luck, have fun and remember any day out in the bush is a blessing!  ;)
