Australian Sea Glass
« on: May 26, 2019, 01:23:34 PM »
Hi all - new to the forum.  Newbie to silversmithing and am wanting to make contact with others who have used sea glass in their jewellery making.  Am looking to set in bezels. The glass looks amazing encompassed by silver.  Any advice or where to find sea glass greatly appreciated
Cheers, Sue

Which area are you?

You tend to find more where you find more shells - so not so much on the long stretches of beach but the small beaches between rocky areas where it gets concentrated and it also doesn't just get buried in the sand.  So we always find a few bits at the spot we go near caves beach.  Obviously nearer inhabited areas where more glass will have found its way into the ocean in the first place also helps.

Welcome Sue,
If your it Tasmania let me know and I'll suggest some spots. The old glass is best as you can get amethyst and blues. Just have to avoid the bubbles when faceting or cabbing.
