Faceting Designs Book
« on: July 16, 2019, 02:14:49 PM »
Hi
I have been meaning to post about my new book for awhile. Steveo just noticed a rendering in the gallery of one of the designs.  I have only recently finish the book, it is available on Amazon and being kindly promoted in the US by Hashnu Gemstones. I also have some free designs available on the Hashnu webpage.
https://www.hashnustones.com/andrew-brown.html https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1072755270/If anyone is interested in Australia I am currently about to get more copies printed in Australia to sell locally at a cheaper price(without high international postage). The book has been a labor of love so to speak. A lot of work, a way of sharing my best designs, and a great achievement to finish.
I am currently working on my webpage and hopefully will have that up and running soon.  If anyone is interested in the book send me a PM.
CheersAndrew

PM Sent FlashGP. Thanks JJ and Leah :). the book was a lot of work but I think in the end worth it, especially as a significant personal achievement. I am currently just starting test cutting designs for volume 2 and trying to improve my photography. Hopefully volume 2 won't take as long as volume 1.
Here's a pic of one of my new designs I just test cut for book volume 2  :)

Hi Macky
Reserve me a copy.

Have a look at Oppositional defiance by Akhavan, I cut it in CZ a few days ago and it's a stunner. Not a beginners cut as hardly any meet points.

Another good one for low RIs is Sakura 80 by Voltolini, I cut it in Amethyst and Citrine and clear Quartz, I love the coloured ones,  but the clear got all the attention when I showed it around at my club yesterday.

It's good weather for faceting, too miserable and cold for doing much else.

Thanks I'll send you a message. :) I can see why Sakura 80 works. I am a big fan of odd symmetry. I have spend quite a bit of time working with 7 and 9 fold on the 96 index for really nice results. 7 fold is my favorite. I have formed a technique I've called 'fusion' in the book where I merge fairly seamlessly odd symmetry pavilions with even symmetry crowns/girdle shape.

Thanks Scratchie, I'll email/message everyone interested soon. I've had a tooth ache for the last 4 days. Went to emergency last night for pain relief, dentist in 4 hours and 21 minute and counting. Cheers Andrew

Gday old mate long time no see.Hope all is well down there in gods country.Im just finishing off my education and sorting some stuff out for the move back in a year or so.Got my hands on an old robilt but haven't cut a facet yet.I just happened to run into 1000cts of faceted Australian sapphire in a little cash deal so im pretty loaded with stones at the moment. Also sent all that other Tassy stash off to Thailand which should be back soon which was close to another 1000ct of topaz, sappire and some of that dirty creek zircon. So your writing books now? I suppose I best get a copy just in case I ever get the time to give the cutting a go.Got an old mate that's just sent me 200 pieces of nice mongok blue, red and pink spinel which I suppose I could always throw you a piece or two.Looking forward to catching up again in those creeks in paradise though ive got another plan hatching in relation to all those overburden piles laying around in the north east.see ya when im lookin at ya and drop me a line when you get the book sorted.Cheers mate

Well done Makkie! Looking forward to seeing your book on the best sellers list at the local bookshop! Seriously, I'd love to see what you've done, perhaps next time I'm down your way, I assume the club has a copy?

Thankyou everyone for your interest in my book.  :) Books and mailing boxes have arrived, I'll email banking details tomorrow.  I sorry for not finding time sooner, with my tooth and my partner in hospital I've been a bit busy.
The club will be getting a copy bucket.
CheersAndrew
