Hi All,

Looking to organise a fossicking trip with the kids for October school holidays for about a week and I've been told I have to look at something different that Glen Innes / Torrington / Inverell area! :-D

We we thinking of exploring from Casino up.  My wife's Dad grew up there so a good starting point from a nostalgia point of view.  As a starting point I've come up with:

  * Hogarth Range for Labrodite for 1 day
  * Day trip into Ewingar - just speck some of the creeks with the kids.

The above 2 there is plenty of info and a few youtube clips so comfortable with those but beyond that figured I'd throw it out to team ALF for some thoughts as to where else to go!  Happy to venture over the border into Qld for the right stuff.

I know there is plenty of interesting stuff in the creeks around Tyalgum, Chillingham, Doon Doon, Numimbah, Limpinwood etc but grateful if anyone happy to give me some more local knowledge or insights (PM me if you don't want to post it all).

If you think a spot is particularly good don't be afraid to mention it as happy to travel a bit for better / interesting sites.

Looking forward to hearing peoples suggestions and insights and thanks in advance as always!

Hogarths is easy specking and scratching.  Just see the farmer and pay your money. details are in Fossicking locations in ALF.

For  Ewingar you would probably need 4WD and a few days to get your eye in.  Still a spot on my to do list.
Sorry your wife has put you on a short leash.
Jerry
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Thanks Jerry,

They were the 2 spots I have well covered thanks to posts like Wwoofa's!  ;D

Was trying to scope out what to do beyond that.

Have you gone on your trip yet?  I thought you were off on a trek north again?

Was up north 7 and a half weeks. Left near end of April and came back near the end of June.  Still dry up there as the area missed out on the rains again.

Some chalcedony in some streams and bits of thundereggs and agates down stream of Doon Doon.  Problem is access. Many locked gates, depth of rivers and areas off limits as now part of National Parks.
Happy huntingJerry
