Stargazing Cut in smoky citrine
« on: April 02, 2020, 10:58:44 AM »

Probably better starting a new thread:
Stargazing facet design smoky citrine ready for transfer. No problems so far, looking sparkly, preview of performance can already be seen in middle picture.

Looking good, will get a photo up of my finished stone soon. Have a look how to put a photo up first!

Great!
I uploaded mine to a member gallery on this forum, worked well. Then pasted the links that were provided into the message.
Look forward to seeing your stone.

I haven't done Stargazing yet but have done Supernova in CZ, which as its name suggests just explodes with flashes of colour.

All done, the Stargazing cut is straight-forward, no surprises or tricky meets, the table has only two meets in fact, which is nice for a change.
The fusion pavilion work surprisingly well, especially in low RI quartz -  the fusion is seen in many other of the designs in Andrew's book, you can see the unusual fat and thin fusion facet shapes reflecting about in some of the photos above.
The stone is a little lighter in the flesh than the front view photos would suggest, I have a video of the stone on my Instagram (roughcreation) if you want to see it that shows it off well. Might try and get some more photos to represent the stone better.

Fantastic, I just can't get a good quality photo like yours, and then the stone looked dirty found tiny bits of dried epoxy still on the pavilion, something I'm going to have to be more mind full of, So the stone is back in the acetone.

Hi Prooz,
It's a big challenge getting good photos, I battle most days still, all stones photograph differently. I have a fancy SLR and a lightbox I made, but I often find a smartphone does a better, more life-like job, go figure. The picture on the dark background for example was taken with my Samsung S8 on the turntable of my faceting machine, sitting on a grey Taubmans paint swatch, with a pillow slip draped over the top to diffuse the ambient light coming from the window. Whatever works. Short videos are superior for showing off stones of course, but harder to post here.

Supernova does look interesting now that you mention it.

I'm using multiple front on(around the camera) diffuse led light sources, I move them around till I'm happy. Dust, glue, grease. I soak/clean in acetone, rub with tissue paper. Then use lens cloth, then blow with air puffer under an extraction fan. Even then I still get dust. Another option is acetone, soapy water, rinse, dry with a hair drier. I'm using a light box but I don't think I need it any more just the front on defuse lighting. That way you get a bit of sparkle and dispersion.
Some of my recent photos of book 2 designs are in the home page video loop.

Rusted, Stargazing will roughly have pretty similar performance to the oval you cut.

Thank you very much for the photography tips, I was putting bright light into it should have woken up to that. I'll have another go when it comes out of the acetone. And never thought to try my phone, I have a good camera, it is known for it's massive zoom power but has got a macro setting but maybe still not suitable for this type of photography.

Thanks again cheers to MB and RC.
