Hi Moth,
I had to give up on the instruction as I wrote them too many times then had to redo after changes. It became really time consuming trying to annotate and order the 41 crown tiers. So I've made you a big diagram to work from. Work from the edge in. If you take your time the majority will now meet point.I had a number of .gem files become error and unable to open them. Pavilion/girdle sequence is not labeled or order how I would like but I'm not going to redraw it all again lol atm. As the last .gem file I was using became corrupt and only now opens in GCS.
I have just sorted the crown tier in order of descending angles, your cutting order will change at times as you reference the larger diagram.
It might look cool if you polish crown tier 27 as well as the eyes. Up to you.
If you would like cutting instruction I will do them but need a break from this for a bit. :)

That's impressive Makky.
You could possibly simplify it slightly by going with equal size facets on the pavilion and having a continuous girdle rather than faceted.
I don't particularly like continuous girdles but I think it would be a reasonable compromise on this design.

Hi Rusted,
I agree the design may be able to be simplified a bit. but atm he pavilion needs to be as it is as it spaces the crown facets. Crown facet spacing is critical for it all coming together.  I will have another go sometime, it would have to be one of the most time consuming designs I've worked with.CheersMB

MB,

I think we'll call you the master of design.

I couldn't design a stone like that.

Regards Gordon
Yours Sincerely

I don't know about a master lol. The Elephant can be improved and may be quite tricky to cut.
But book 3 is going to be very impressive imo lock down has been prefect for designing.
Anyone that has requests let me know I'll have a go designing anything :)MB

Just been looking at it, I'll have another go tomorrow. Think I can make it a bit tidier.

I have started it. It's going to be an elephant sized stone, probably around 22mm.
A nice piece of fairly dark Smokey that I hope will do it justice.
Just transferring now, the pavilion was easy but the big facets took a while.
Makky I will keep you posted, I don't want to rush it so it might be a couple of days.

Hopefully it turns out ok. I'd cut and polish the crown edge facets first, then move inwards picking up meets. It is going to get a little tricky in the middle with shallow angles and some tiers to float.

I just redrew it. It actually all meets, but some of the angles will walk a bit so don't chase multiple meets. Let me know if you would like the cutting order and .gem file.

Hey Makky,
I can't thank you enough - I am so humbled that a total stranger would put so much time and effort into this design and I will try and do it justice (The shaded facets obviously are those to leave unpolished).
At the moment my Faceting Machine is getting recalibrated but I look forward to starting this project as soon as I get it back. BTW the Chemo starts this week and is apparently going to be pretty horrific so this will really help.

I'm having a go at this, almost ready to start polishing the crown edge facets. I did have to start on the crown again, lucky I had left enough girdle width in case of. Ok this time round, starting to see the tusks and trunk, but will take awhile yet.

Cheers

I have all the edge facets cut and polished, I have most of the head and ears done.
A couple of minor overcuts, it certainly wont be a prize winner but it's getting there.
Prooz, what grit are you using for the frosted areas? I started with 1200 but I fet it was too fine and shiny, went to 800 but that is perhaps too rough, ah well Elephants aren't exactly smooth are they. :)

Hi Rusted, I'm using 600 it's ferally new so maybe a little rough, but I'm cutting out on the edge wear it has had a bit of a run in. My 1200 would be to smooth and shiny as well.
When I did Makky's Butter fly, I used a worn 960 and that was pretty good, so will compare when I get onto that over the next couple of days. There's a lot of work in it especially doing the crown edges twice!

Cheers

I quite often use my 800 sintered for frosting.
